Blender would be your best bet as its now less "What a POS program, no 3d guy would admit to using it" to "Its what the kids are using and its not that bad" :-P

afaik blender has no bf2 exporter tools? I know you could probably save in blender and then open it in 3ds max, but there can be problems with the export. Personally Id recommend using 3ds max if you want to start modelling for bf2, becaue youll end up using it for stuff eventually anyway. It isn't that hard to learn, but the first 20 hours or so are extremely hard.

nah not going to work I am only willing to help if it is free I mean I am not even a modeler and my career is not even close although I am good at drawing though so I can draw you something cool

anyway the point is I am not volunteering for something if it costs money I am on a tight budget

Speak to some moddlers. You cant export to bf2 with blender, so you'll end up either having to get 3ds max, and then learn how to use that, or find someone to export everything for you ( good luck with that )

bf2 modelling = 3ds max

You do not need 3ds max.

You can just model in gmax and not use blender.

Like CRF and Spearhead, I will share some of the tips that got me to where I am now.

1. Be committed and persevere, don't give up at the first sign of trouble on the horizon!
2. Be proactive. Search! google probably has the answer, probably a list of them.
3. Learn new techniques, search new sources of info.
4. Build a good relationship with someone who can help.
4a. Be mature about it or you won't be getting help for long
4b. Do not spam the individual you are getting help from
4c. Only contact for advice or opinions. Help with the interface of a program should easily be available on the net... no need to trouble already busy people with trivial things that a few tries on google could have solved for you.
5. Community factions are your friend. It was where I started. It gives the powers above a chance to see your progress.
6. Check out the stickies and search tutorials.

It is hard. Accept that it will consume much of your time if you want to make something proper.
Start out slow with something that you find interesting.

Good luck with it.

I think it would be nice if someone browsed the bf2-related modeling tutorials out there and collected them in a list organized by difficulty and sorted by what order people should be learning them.

The mapping tut list was really well done and I believe it has brought a great many community mappers. A list like that related to modeling I think would go a long way towards helping a lot more people start with modeling than are already doing it.

Currently I would liken the process of getting started with modeling for BF2 for a person who has 0 experience with modeling (or even modding in general) to a little girl getting directed to go into a large dark forest with a hand drawn map and a slingshot (no ammo) to go kill a 4 headed gigantic snake that can shoot laser beams out of its eyes...

Someone who has more experience than me should go out and find the best tuts to learn from, organized in the order they should be learned and by difficulty, and group them into a thread called "[Modeling Tutorial List] Where to start Modeling?" so the process doesn't have so damn hard to learn. Moddeling by nature is quite technical and complicated but just like everything else in this world, it can be learned.

If no one else with more experience and knowledge of modeling will step up and make it, I will gladly do it myself.
