Please. Off topic is for off topic discussions. NOT spam. If you want to chat, do it in MSN or IRC or somewhere else - where you won't make other people wade through pages of spam to find the few good posts in a topic.

Yeah, there's been lots of good DISCUSSIONS on the Off-Topic forum, stuff about video games, music, other mods, whatever but stuff like the never-ending Word Association and Quotes threads annoy me to no end...

What should be made is a sub forum of the off topic called spam land.

Encouraging Spam in others forms is not the answer, enforcing a NO spam policy is, keeps the kiddies out.

Off-Topic (4 Viewing)
... everything else (including useless SPAM)
Spam at the moment is not allowed on the forums apart from in the offtopic area. As some useful topics are posted in the offtopic area my suggestion is to chuck all the spam into "spam land", that way any one who didnt want to see any spam would just avoid that sub forum. other wise the good offtopic, topics are going to be mixed up with the spam....
I dont think we will ever be able to 100% get rid of spam, but to contain it into a small area is normaly the best soulition

On the topic of large signatures, Trogdor is a huge offender here, despite being an [R-PUB].
And about the spam, I think it is best if it's eradicated altogether. It's kinda getting silly now, the Off Topic section does indeed have some useful threads in there, no need to permit them to get spammed really.

As long as the spam is contained within a few dedicated threads in OT I don't see the problem. If any other thread starts going downhill just report it to a mod.
As for the spam in the OT forum, there are currently 4 threads that are more or less dedicated to spam in one form or another. One is even clearly marked as such. If that are 3 too many then keep one and drop the other 3.
In my opinion keep them all as they tend to be at least a little on topic!

When it comes to the Best Quotes thread either have it cleaned up and marked as a NO SPAM ZONE or simply start a new Best Quotes Thread and mark THAT one as a NO SPAM ZONE.
The shoutbox then. If it's a problem. remove it.
We made do without it before and we can live without it again. In fact, why don't we start a poll on wether it should be removed or not?
As long as it is still here it will inevitably be used as a chatclient.

shoutbox is really just a nice quick awnser questions bit ect. Not really that usefuly and mainly full of spam but it has its moments of goodness, i just ignore all the spam in there
EDIT: Gringo, it makes the forums look like **** and un-professional where we (the devs) cant be asked to read a load of spam when we want to read feedback ect that may improve our mod

SpamLand it is then.
Also, make sure that you don't gain posts for posting in spamland.
EDIT: Also, any posts descending into spam and locked subsequently should be cast into spamland so everyone posting there loses their posts.

well, so you will divide the off-topic into normal conversations and spam, won´t you?

Lol, truely inspiring
mrmong wrote: the section gets trimmed more frequently than others
Again, LOL, trimmed - that is brilliant.
I can think of a few threads that would fit nicely into that section, i think the idea should be tryed for a month or 2, jsut to see the general affect OR would it actualy increasing spamming, becuase some people, who dont normaly spam, find they can not stop AND it spills out of the spam section in to every section near by. COmpletely contaminating the whole site becuase at present it is not that bad is many sections but just in a certian few.

If it increases spamming, who cares? They don't gain posts from it.
If it spills out... then things get nasty. I know of many forums which have a "no man's land" where anything goes (so long as it doesn't break the rules) to increase the quality of posts outside of the spam area.

We have quite a nice range of vocab:
"trimming"
"no-mans land"
"spills out"
"contaminate"
"spam policy"
"spam land"
"offender"
"eradicated"
"stop Spam or i will shoot the dog"
Sorry, at times i just get confused as to what we are dealing/ talkign about AND the consequence of spamming and what should be done - just sounds far worse than it is but DAMM funny.

Perhaps it is best if the entire "Spam Land" idea is temporarily severed from
our cerebration. After all, the moderators will see to it that this predicament
will finally meet an appropriate demise.
But for now, it is best that their intuition and ideas will be theirs and
theirs alone. Once everything has been discussed and debated, one of them
will surely come forth and elucidate their reasoning.

If the mods do their job and police the forums, I doubt that will be a very hard job now that we are sharpening the edge.
Keep the spam threads we have in OT and make sure the worst of the spam stays in those threads.
Now, for the postcount stuff. Just drop the postcount. Remove it completely. Anyway, you're not judged by the number of posts you have under your belt. It's how you post that matters.
(postcount AND shoutcount) + gone = True.
