i have to say that attack helicopters do get shot down far to easily

something needs to be done about AA for sure.
and for gameplay sake not for realism really

-how about a longer load time for AA missles?

-or only 1 buildable AA asset per team?

-a longer lock time?

-or more warning for the pilot when they get lock?

-increase the power of 1 missle but make it so u can only fire one every 30 seconds, instead of a spam that u get?

-increase the effectiveness of flares?

-i dont know if this is true but i rememeber hearing that attack helicopters like the apache have auto deployed countermeasures, keep everything the same but so long as u have tone u dump flares automatically???

-make kashan more mountainous? because its really this flat map where the problem arises more so than other maps (and kashan is VERY flat), maybe if helicopters had more geographical protection?

^^
all individual ideas (not to be clumped together into one big idea), i dont know which would be the best honeslty and im sure theres better ideas out there

regardless i think that something has to be done about it, its quite ridculous ingame and the whole "pilot skill" arguement is invalid

if u fly high
- low visablility
- ur dependant on ground troops for lases
- even then u still have to go lower to get a lock

if u fly low
- everything can have a go at u not just AA

so really if u fly high and sit and wait, its really not ur skill but the skill of the troops on the ground to be ur eyes which so rarely happens....

they dont have the speed of jets but yet theyr forced to perform like a jet
in order to survive on kashan u have to fly high and wait, just like u would in a jet, orbit around and check for Air threats while waiting for lases, BUT helicopters arent jets

theres my 10 cents

Why ?

For more [2 lucky guys that waited 20mins doing nothing, waiting to pawn the entire team effortlessly with the Cobra] moments ?

hell no, let the PR team menage the gameplay issues and asset's balance.

My suggestion is to revamp the whole process between aircraft. Even though stated before, that no helicopter or aircraft is armored as much as a MBT, or a AFV like the Bradley might be, some are armored in particular areas to increase survivability. The AH-64 being armored by the cockpit, areas around the fuel tanks, and around the tail assembly and engine. The Hind itself can take in 12.7mm all around, and up to 37mm at the cockpit. The point is after all of my ranting, is that to increase the survivability against certain weapon caliber's, although none are much resistant to MANPADs, and SAMs, they should be taken into consideration as most aircraft are mounted with IR jamming systems, the Apache, and Kiowa Warrior using jammers rendering the SA-7 and some similar less useful.
Plenty of Hinds were lost due to enemy fire in the Soviet-Afghan war (and no, I'm not talking about Stingers)

even better, numerous Apaches have been downed by enemy fire in Iraq (bare in mind the extremely limited use of heavy caliber weapons by insurgents)

The problem is that this is all done in isolation. Why do we have helicopters engaging helicopters? For realism, it would be an F16 that would be doing all the air patrol mumbo jumbo. Attack helicopters are trying to engage tanks, but they can't nab tanks without being nabbed themselves.

I concur that if attack helicopters get within 500 meters of HMGs they deserve what comes to them though.

Perhaps the infamous "ticking noise" when you start to get locked?
