Hmm... Definitely gonna add that. Be nice if a large number of other people would as well.

I am often an SL on PRTA, as others say as long a you have a mic (PRTA so mumble too) you're welcome.
Odd in my experience NWA and UKWF are pretty friendly.

Well Lambeosaur, I'm sorry your experience was so negative. It can be extremely frustrating to "start cold" because almost everyone has tremendous expectations based on their own knowledge, sometimes aquired over a period of years. It does pay to remember that not everyone playing this game since .4 or .5, and that they may not be able to just follow a series of jargon that relies on that experience.
I hope you have better luck in the future finding people who aren't so far up their own arse that they don't have time for a new player. Shop around, who know's where you'll find a home!

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Re: Elitism problem in PR
I've been playing since a week before 0.957 came out, so i'd still say i'm pretty new to it, but like all these other guys have said, join servers with good ping and that are usually populated and frequent there. I tend to play on NWA and UKWF more than anything, joined PRTA once (which was an amazing round, cheers guys) and a couple of other random ones.
Basically, try and show a bit of military know how if you can, and try and make yourself useful. Suggest things once in a while to the SL if you think of anything that needs doing. I was in a game earlier in insurgency and the rest of the squad kept running blind across roads and passages. I got on the squad chat and told everyone to cover each other moving across places and we did, i think 2 of the guys were REALLY new so it helped them. If your squad doesn't have a medic, ask the SL if you need one.
Just keep in communication with your squad if you get into a decent one, look out for tags you recognise, make yourself useful and don't do anything stupid, because that's my job.
If you see me out there, give me a shout!

There is a lot of vocab in PR as in the real-world military, so it can be really helpful to just ask. When I first played on Muttrah city, I was pretty confused to hear people talking about "crooked T" and such.

im always happy to have new players in my squads as long as they have a mic. They generally spend less time chatting and questioning orders than a regular would and when your under fire it definitely helps.

Try making your own squad once in a while
If there are no proper "open" squads then take the initiative and make one.

Re: Elitism problem in PR
ive found people are more willing to join my squad since i have the # on ingame.
tho i have played with some people with the # tag that are incompetent or lone wolfing or join grab sniper, hat, other kit and leave. (ie ****** moves)
so its not foolproof. click on the link above or in the # sigs to go the page that explains it.

I wonder if there might be some mechanic that could be introduced to cut down on ****** moves, sort of like the mechanic for using enemy limited kits. Maybe a kit like a HAT would black you out like an enemy kit if you were carrying it and not in a squad of a certain size?

Like many people said, it's all about the server.
But hey, I'd suggest you look for a squad with a # player in... hopefully that should indicate that squad uses teamwork. At least that's my experience.
EDIT: That was already mentioned, nvm.

Squad Leading takes two things: experience and leadership. You never know what it is actually like till you try it. I'd recommend signing up for the squad leader training scheme, just make it known your there for the squad leader training and they'll do their best to teach you how to do so: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... ining.htmlLambeosaur wrote: Any tips on how to get in any clans or how to get used to leading a your own squad? (i loved squadleading in vanilla BF2)
If you are actually considering joining a clan, take a look around and try to play with members of a few different ones, its important that if you are going to join one, that your'll be happy with them. As they tend to be commitments that last for quite a long time. If you do one find you like just ask them how to join they should be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Re: Elitism problem in PR
Personally tho I have never missed being not in a clan. I've been in a community for a while but that died out. Now I've been clanless for the major part of my PR carreer and I dont mis it.
Like some people have said, the PR community is pretty friendly and if you keep playing on the same server and playing PR "like it should" you'r bound to make some friends.
For me thats what PR is about at this moment, playing it with some people you know. Recently I'm not even in the same squads as them as they are in clans and clan up in the games, but you've got them on the team and thats good enough for me

Re: Elitism problem in PR
Joining the right server will eliminate any of the "elitist" vibes you've been getting. If you play often enough, the community isn't too large, so I'm sure you will find a circle of friends relatively easily.
Clans are a great way to make a name for yourself, and also gain some instant recognition (omfg it's those OD-S trolls again!). Just make sure you find one that suits you, and remember it's not a race so take your time.
You shouldn't worry too much about being judged just act mature, even if you're not the best at the game people will respect you and want to squad up. One thing that sold me on PR is the overall attitude of the community. While there are some trolls/griefers out there (you will learn which servers to avoid), the vast majority of PR players are a cut above any other community I've had the privilege to be a part of.
Don't let a few pinheads sour your view.

At Rusty in Places, we do not allow locked squads in PR. This is because we want to encourage new users to participate in experienced squads. It promotes the clan and it helps people learn what PR is about.
