People seem to think that IRL snipers are killing machines able to take down people in one shot... well they're not! unless a sniper shot you in the head/neck (which if i'm not mistaken is alreay in-game) you wouldn't die straight away.
Snipers are already a massive pain in the arse! you get shot by a sniper the whole SQ has to stop to find it to make sure they get cover from it and they also have to heal the downed man which will allow you to tell your friendly squads that and enemy infantry SQ is comming their way and prepare for it, don't forget a sniper has the ability to call down CAS and even artillary barrages if they are a SL. That's a powerful asset.
I hate to say that, but you don,t need sniper training to be a spotter and a artillery caller.
ANY idiot which a binocular and a radio can be a spotter in game, and in really life to, (but in RL not ANY idiot but a sneaky idiot can do the job).
A sniper usually is a Spotter because he needs to pick up he,s targets using outmost wisdow, if he start a killing frenzy people will find he and kill he, and usually pillage his kit in the process, it,s a matter of kill one here, relocate, kill another relocate. if you stay in a point for to long, killing and killing it WILL attract the enemies attention, so much pacience is required that the sniper utterly become a Eye unit, check what is there say to you officer, and kill what,s is important, like a Heavy weapon soldier or a officer.
sometimes is hard to describe if the observer function is a bonus to the sniper function or the sniper skill is a bonus to the observer function. because the difference of he to a regular binocular boy is that he actually kill shiet, while a binocular boy usually just spot and say to radio what,s going on.
for that angle, i am for a sniper being made to SNIPE people, because i can keep allot more resourcers to my team being a rifleman especialist spoter, afeter all i not only have the same binocle but a rope which allows me to easy travel and collect more intel, right?,
), to stop light vehicles (trucks, cars..) (M82, M95, M107, Tac-50...would be so SEXY in PR !!!!! )
