hearken unto maz, he speaketh the truth. the tag server is very friendly and i've spent most of my newbiedom there. i was on the tag server last night with a squad of three newbies and had a great time walking them around, taking flags, setting up spawns, i even got one of them to kill the enemy apc with a rather nice piece of bait n switch (with yours truly as the bait). only award i didn't get that game was best squad, maz got that. the git.

So guys, how's it going with the program? Anybody adopting newbies?
I've had some success but I guess it will take time for the newbies to realise we are out there.

Yes or let's say maybe, I'm not sure - showed 3 new norgwegian(?) guys who were not that bad some stuff on kashan at TV2 Armour server yesterday since noone was there except for us and 2 or 3 others and we were waiting for the game to get going. But these guys were no noobs but nice newbies who actually took a brief look into the manual and were overall cool guys - maybe that doesn't count ;)

Best gamers in here does not have to adopt a newbie. They do it without question.

ante9383 wrote:It saddens me to see a thread called SNOBS, posted by frustrated on-and-off PR player who is tired of being called names for being a newbie. Sadly, the man is right. I mainly play on a certain European server (cough THORS BRIGADE cough) run by understanding and helpful admins, but even there the noob-bashing is present like on any other public server. When a noob asks a question à la the infamous "what's the shovel for?", most always they will get a quick and accurate answer, though some players (including myself I gotta admit) cannot bite their tongue and will say "to dig your own grave" etc. (Yes , hilarious to you and your squaddies, but not helpful and really off-putting for the newbie!)
We all love PR, right? We all started at some point, right? And we fucked up more than a few times when we did, right? So stop acting like you are Delta Force operators and get your heads out of your asses, people.
You are playing with real people with real emotions. PR is not Army bootcamp and don't you dare tell me or the newbies to harden the fuck up or similar.
"RTFM" or "go back to vanilla" are not appropriate responses to understandable questions like "why can't I get in the turret of a manned tank?" (you've got to be in the same squad as the tank driver).

Thus I propose the "Adopt a Newbie" program.

I call all experienced squad leaders to keep one slot open for a newbie each round, and start teaching those new players instead of ostrisizing and cursing them. Project Reality, magnificent as it may be, will never grow if the newbie experience does not change for the better. It is our duty to educate players and share the great fun we are having playing PR with new players!

Newbies: by all means, read the manual, but don't be afraid to ask questions.
You will find me and many others like me on the above mentioned server most weekdays.
Bravo Ante! Tako triba. Glavno je da čovik sluša jebe me se ako je newbie!

Let's get back to English;

Hi all. Some of you know me from Thors brigade. I usually play SL. Not cause I am an ego tripper but usually cause I have no choice. I want a guided squad. So if their isn't any or no space in the good ones I take the hard role of the SL. I have no problem with newbies or anybody other as long *** they follow orders. I demand that people obey my orders but I am opened to suggestion. If somebody does something wrong I usually warn them so they have time to correct it if not KICK! I kick everybody who is not playing team play. From grunt to colonel! I don't care. I can't wait 5 minutes to make a RP cause he's got a marksman kit and he has a nice position. Team play, Team play! I only don't kick Divs-Schrotti cause he is a 3 star general and no 1 in this game according to ABR so he can run around as he wants in my squad.

Well, Snake Doctor isnt really excited about it...

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/t26846.html

I say, adopt those, who want to be helped, not those "how do you get Pilot kit" so they crash the heli, because they dont know, how to fly...

I can also adopt some newbies especially german-speaking newbies and show them how to fly attackhelos, transporthelos and scouthelos.

If someone want to be adobted just add me in ICQ or MSN or xfire.

I must say I'm impressed so far. Wherever I go (US and European servers), I see "any newbies willing to be taught?" requests from squadleaders - so there you go, people seem to be catching on to the idea. Eddiereyes is even writing an "Adopt-A-Newbie"-song. Way to go, people! Still, many more experienced SL's have to start adopting newbies.
I had one tonight on Tactical Gamer called jasper . Had no mike but was willing to learn. He was making an effort and that's what counts!

i have made a pledge. whenever i can, i will start a squad called "newbies" at the beginning of the game. i may not be the best sl of all time but i know the maps and i'll answer your questions if i can. if you see me start up a squad, jump in and i'll ruin all my secret spawn points by making them common knowledge.
