Thats my $0.02.
the advantages of having an M4 instead of an M16A4 in cqb cant be simulated in game. ie in real-life, fighting with the M4 in urban settings would be easier because of better balance, shorter length=better maneuverability.
dont forget that the M4 isnt full-auto

nevertheless, i would still want this kit as a 2nd rifleman that can function as a pointman/cqb soldier.
the US kit would have the burst M4 but with a red dot, the other factions with their current SF carbines.
I dont know what GB would get though...

knife, carbine, 2 frags, 1 smoke, 2 flashbangs, binocs, no ammo bag, a shovel, and body armor (vbf2 assault soldier model)

could kind of be an "NCO" would not be overplayed at all, imo.

Just an idea:
Add 1 smoke, add 2 frags, remove shovel and name it "Light Rifleman"

Whenever I am USMC I either try to get a useful limited kit or go spec ops. In my opinion burst fire sucks big time. Especially with the M16.

Which is why you use single shot, and fire more than once.

Yes, but I prefer full auto in close quarters. Single is good, but not when the target you have to take down as a much more powerful gun than you. Anyway, auto is beter for me at least. I can control my bursts, fire only one shot or more depending on the situation.

IIRC the 3rb was having an issue where it was only doing the damage of one shot or something. Unsure if .631 or whatever fixed it.

Use frags.

I usually just hide, so they aren't prepared for you, then fast single shots ftw

On Basrah, I managed to blow up an IFV inside VCP without getting myself killed, because I didn't shoot anyone and just ran past like 4 British and no one noticed me. Then they came back and all got shot by my Saiga

Kinda agree with you on that one.

I dont mind the M16 and at range it is good. But for certain maps i will use the Spec Ops kit if theres no Support Kit available (EJOD, Basra etc). When im in round built up places the M4 definately has it advantages for clearing area's and moving on quickly. When in CQB's in built up maps id prefer to face an AK47/G3 with the M4 over the M16 anyday.

I use the spec ops kit less now than i used to but i still think it should be kept in the game none the less. I dunno, maybe make it a limited kit to stop half the team running around with it...which happens quite frequently.

Spec Ops will be limited and USMC will get M16A4 with full auto, so you can stop running around with M4A1s...

Uh, the M16A4 has a safe-semi-burst trigger group. No full auto for the regular marines. Remember, Americans can't be trusted with full auto rifles according to their commanders! :p

Anyway, its realistic, stop moaning and make your Automatic Rifleman do his job and provide the squad's firepower.

the problem was that back in WWII, you had a standard 13 man squad with four man fireteams. each fireteam had one BAR and three M1's. the goal of the fireteam was to make the BAR work. When the U.S. started looking to replace the M1, they wanted something to replace every weapon with. So, it had to have full auto, it had to be accurate, and had to have a large magazine cap.
They issued the M14, took out the BAR, and now since every rifleman had full auto, they all just shot that way. they couldn't hit anything, so tactics went to hell. there was no "designated automatic rifleman" or DM per squad. Everyone had the same thing. In 'Nam, when the M16 was issued, it was a piece of **** because it didn't fire (the first shot went, but the case got stuck and would jam a second round behind it, we all know the story), but the big problem was they took the flaw of the M14, and made it worse by allowing everyone to carry even MORE ammo, along with a higher rate of fire and bigger magazines. When the jamming issue was fixed, everyone just shot full auto all the time. (FMJ/Apocalypse now anyone?)

We learned our lesson after some bright mathematician found out we were using on average over five thousand rounds per single VC killed...

So now we have better trained soldiers (at least in the USMC, not sure about the army)
and the 3 round burst trigger group
and the M240 and M249
(a.k.a. the Minimi and GPMG for you brits)

The M4A1 and M16A3 are full auto variants of the standard assault rifles used ONLY by the special forces, and they both are equipped with a flattop picatinny receiver for mounted sights and accessories.

From what Ive heard about the M16 jamming in vietnam it was mainly due to the fact that the army (stupidly) told the soldiers they never had to clean their M16's, wich lead to all the jamming and most of the soldiers hating it.

from what you've heard is bureaucratic bullshit.

there have been actual accounts of soldiers who religiously cleaned their weapons "so you could eat off of them"

and they still jammed.

the problem was
1. the type of powder used
2. the fact that bores and chambers were not chrome lined, so they had uber friction, which led to stuck cases.
3. Every time you fire a weapon, the brass casing will swell because of its elsasticity, and this is a process is what helps keep the gases in the barrel.
unfortunately, the cases swelled to the point that they could not become unstuck, for reason mentioned in #2.
4. yes, you are right on this one- the gas system caused fouling in the receiver, which needed to be cleaned, and no cleaning kits were issued.

there was an actual account of one logistics officer who went over used rifles in vietnam, checking the internal parts for wear with a high powered magnifying glass. He had a pile of faulty m16s. when one new recruit got his weapon, a corporal and a staff sergeant took it from him, filed it down and put some marks on it to make it "look used", then gave it to the officer. He threw it in the pile.
the rifle that had never been fired looked just the same as all the other used rifles, as it wasn't wear and tear he was seeing, but poor quality standards.

back on topic...

for sure: specops is limited in .7
not for sure but hopefully: the kit will get a boost and/or different specops kits will be created (ie "captain", "weapons sgt", "demolition")
not for sure but hopefully: the "pointman"/"cqb rifleman"/"low-ranking NCO" kit that i suggested on top of previous page replacing the sf on spawn menu

Spec Ops usually work stealthly behind enemy lines.
My vision about Spec Ops kit:
knife, silenced pistol, silenced carbine (like M4) with red dot scope, 2 SLAMs, 2 C4, SOFLAM, field dressings, NO body armour.
To many gadgets? Well, spec ops are the best of the best

why would anyone even bother using a slam if they had 2 C4?

slams are shaped charges meant to disable vehicles, which in this game they obviously dont do.

c4 should be used for general demolition

i think the spec ops kit need to be more used and have more stuff, so players can do the real spec ops thing and hold up aginst 200 insurgents and get deep behind enemy lines (this whole post is coming from a al basrah point of view)
