I have a very simliar problem. When I join online games I would usually crash to desktop without warning within the first 5 minutes. There isn't any punkbuster warning, or server kick warning, so I think the problem is more likely client side.

I'm running Windows 7, updated graphics and most drivers recently, I have made permission on firewall and anti virus for both PR and BF2, I've tried running it in windows mode as suggested , but I didn't get an error box when it crashed again and again. Although occasionally I get that warning sound that windows makes when something crashes.

Check your running the latest "net.framework.
Look in : control panels/add or remove programs

you should see:
Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1
Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile

I get this error at 62% of loading any map:

memory.dll: sanity check: block size 1073768208 (1024.02 MB) doesn't seem sane

Anyone know a fix?
