exactly, aliens aren't exactly plausible either. However all other alien shooters feature humans with their super assault rifles or laser cannons or some kind of rail gun. then again Halo technology feels like a step backwards to me. (ie. tanks only having one type of shell HE to be specific. I'd think a sabot round would take out a phantom quite nicely in one hit)
screw middle earth, we all know that's fake, so there would be no reality. But what about "PR: Rome" fight with swords, bow and arrow, build stone fortifications! Lock shields and make a box with your squad to create the ultimate defensive structure against archers!

I posted PR rome just as an example of alternative timeline realism which would by definition be "unrealistic" to us since we would not fight that way anymore. However moments after pressing the submit button i started thinking about how awesome that might actually be
i mean i would LOVE to coordinate my squad to form a testudo formation. and i even thought about deployables. sure you can have the individual archers too, but what about something like the deployable mortars only it's modeled as 20 roman archers and fires 20 arrows instead of a mortar shell? the player would essentially be one of the archers and would manually aim sort of like how grenades are aimed now with a pointed finger instead of an L shape. it would be perfect! instantly deployed, when destroyed it'll be a pile of corpses, no rebuilding. must wait for archer's column to reload then setup a new one.
though the Persian faction would be really over powered
balista and the like would work just like field guns in FH, pushed around very slowly

BF Pirates has muskets, cannons, swords, etc. You could do something with that. No Napoleonic kit geometries though. And no horses.
Still, great fun on a 250 player server .

Found a vid of a really well done horse in BF2142 though
But, that's not possible in BF2. Of course you can get the horse in-game, but will never look as good as it does in BF2142. I don't think you can animate it very well.

BF2 doesn't support vehicle animation like that of the mechs in BF2142 iirc, amongst other things. That at least is what makes stuff like horse-vehicles possible in BF2142 and not in BF2.

@op: sorry for derailing your thread. still think aliens would be awesome though, wonder how well an M72 would do against covenant vehicles? it seems to travel faster than the Halo rocket launcher. that thing is slow as balls.

Medieval Idea
It can't be done without cavalry, so perhaps the only option would be to mod BF2142 with ofc PR in-game mechanics. Considering the monumental work, I don't think that will ever happen.
One thing that fascinates me about the thought, is that unlike other past eras, we never got to experience a full scale medieval battle in the first person. Mount&Blade only offers a fragment of it, so if you consider all medieval rpg gamers, Oblivion type and even Mount&Blade community, you get a good potential number.
I would love to assault a fortification or march with my spike held front against the enemy. With PR in-game mechanics, it would make the whole thing even more epic, as I couldn't think of any other better way for this kind of game to succeed.
Alien Idea
As always we take the premise that it's an alien invasion (and ofc, it could only be that way). Someone posted that they don't have to technologically superior is kind of dumb, as they are the ones invading us from outer space...plus that's one of the mistakes that sci fi movies do. Like they always have this retarded glaring weakness. And even if they did, I'm pretty sure they could take their time to study us - after all, they did built fucking spaceships - and protect themselves better.
So honestly, if you want to make some sense into this, of aliens vs the contemporary human world, then the only option is asymmetrical warfare - humans mostly behaving as insurgents and using some military equipment and in numerical superiority. It is still far fetched but this is a game after all. I'm just hoping that such a mod would have to involve some degree of realism, especially for PR.

Don't play dumb, you know exactly what I'm trying to say. Otherwise it wouldn't stop anyone from making 4 feet sized aliens that shoot flaming asteroids with a bigass weapon.
It would actually be cool, but that's beside the point. The fantasy of most posters here is to recreate a "what if". So there must be some logic put into it.
