I fixed the lower indents, but I have run into a small problem. I cannot seem to de-select the object, as there is always a box around it. Otherwise everything is good. Image

looks good, although I would start to watch your tris a bit now, even thou your still fine just don't go too over the top on anything is all, I would have said 3 or 4k tris is fine for this but the lower it is, the better :D

As for your problem, check you have got none of the selection modes selected?

I don't seem to, and my tri count is messed up, now it's saying 646 tris.

Can I send it to you, because I cannot seem to de-select it.

Looks good, although I see a smoothing error on the lower left step in that pic :)

I see more dispropositions there mate:

Image
You basically need those indents in red to be the same size, this can be be done by moving the face with three indents closer to the center or moving the face with one indent farther. I tried to mark it in green.

This satelite image may help you with getting feel of how the sairs are shaped..

I tried to mark it in blue.

I have a question...

Why on earth are people being so anally retentive about trivial details on the structure that don't match 100% to their perception of the reference pictures?

What difference does it make... ?

Oh and don't get me wrong, I know everyone is just trying to help but it seems like it's starting to go a little overboard, but then again what do I know, I haven't modeled any statics...

Might as well do it right while you're at modeling it, especially since it isn't such a complicated structure.
You're right though that it doesn't matter a lot as long as the general shape looks correct.

I came back to retract my post but I've already been quoted. I'm all for authenticity and the like, and I guess it's up to shovel what he takes on board, but it did feel a bit over the top. Anyway great work shovel! The hard parts are apparently still to come with textures and importing but I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out

Indeed, personally I can't let any details go by when I'm modelling something :p

I tried to fix the pedestal's placement. Here is an overhead view.

I just got off school, so I have a lot of free time. The past few weeks have been really busy.

Anyway, I am gong to begin work on the tower. To me, it looks like the tower is the same shape as the pedestal, (a triangle with flat edges)
It tapers out to a triangle at the top.

Sounds good, best to take your time and do a good job rather than try to rush it with time you don't have then get burnt out :)

Also from the refs I'm looking at the top isn't a triangle, its the same shape as the base, it just turns into a point at the very top which you can more clearly see in these pics:

Yeah, I figured that out soon after i posted it. Should I model the antenna on the top? or is it not worth the geometry?

The whole thing:

How each block of the tower is built:

Detail of the top:

I left a small bit at the top in case I want to add and antenna later.

looks good, might as well add the antenna and see how it looks although I would make that tri at the top a little smaller before you do then just extrude it out of it :)

perfect, exactly what I would have done too and on LOD1 you can remove the antenna and collapse the hole left by it :D

One thing thou is the short side of your triangle thingy is a little too short at the top I would say, in the refs it looks much wider?
