This thread needs closing, it's been discussed to death.

Summary - Sniper rifles are valuable in the right hands, like any kit, and should remain in game. Players are hardcoded. End of.

LOCK!

Why not exchange tips?

the most challenging part for me is actually staying hidden, most PR maps are overplayed and most sniper hiding spots are well known, usually after the first shot I get located and mortared/shot.

shooting isnt really a problem since I shoot fine up to 600 which is good for most situations.

OK here's a tip to virtually eliminate the sniper 'threat' for those who dislike snipzors:

If one of your team mates gets shot, get into dead ground. 90% of the time you'll know where the sniper is anyway.

Usually they aren't part of a cohesive force, they're just after som l33t kills, even on Mumble servers. This means that you can revive your downed squad mate and use the dead ground to carry on your merry way.

If the sniper is an actual PIA, look at the nearest hill and you'll find out why there was no dead ground, usually you'll also see him floating about 6ft above it because of a bug. He's invincible there because he does 'that peek thing' with his head, but you can usually fire enough that he 'relocates' (noob snipzor talk for moving 5m downhill until people stop shooting at them and then doing the exact same technique).

If you're actually against the 1% of people that play PR and that can also use the sniper gun, just get into cover, smoke up, retreat, and then travel out of line of sight of your pain in the arse encounter. You haven't got hit with CAS or Mortars whilst you were 'pinned down', so there is no real threat. Basically, because you're not dead, you've only got him to worry about.

I can imagine on a dive server that a sniper can be very useful, even the focus point of his team (he can act like a super l33t commander, pinning down indecisive SL's trying to take good charge of people new to PR that run around like headless chickens). But on a good server.. I dunno.

I may as well point out that I don't play the big maps like Archer, etc. Just play the 'normal' sized ones.

speaking of good snipers i once had to deal with a smart one. SOB called mortars on us and sniped when the shells hit. like "enemy at the gates" though sound in the game doesnt work quite like real life so we still managed to figure out where he was and GTFO.

The shell thing is awesome though.

Couldn't Agree more. The 'sniper kit' is much more useful than precision shooting, hence the radio and Laser designator. You're there to survey your section of the map, not engage it.

I think it would be unwise to remove this kit in any circumstance. In skilled hands the sniper kit can play a huge role in winning or losing a round. It all depends on who is using the sniper kit.

I do not deny that the majority of users of the sniper kit are close to useless, losing the kit, wasting assets, taking up a squad member spot. But there are those few snipers who actually do their job. I enjoy using the sniper kit immensely, especially with mortar crews. It can be a deadly combination.

In reality, there are only two sniper kits, and you can still kick them out of your squad if needed. The "bad snipers" are more of a nuisance then a problem. I feel they are here to stay.

Any guy who wants the sniper rifle is more than welcome to join my squad to request it. Only demand I have is that you leave as quickly as you joined.

I really don't have anything agains snipers. Often I feel people rage about snipers because "if I can't have, neither should you" mentality. I get more upset if I see three active transport choppers when only one is needed.

At least a sniper can disrupt an enemy squad and delay their mission. Only wish I have for snipers is that they start using the radio more often to spot enemies.

What I hate, though, is when someone whom I have assigned a kit too (and he agrees) gets the sniper kit. *Sigh* Good thing that's a rare thing.

Also, note on the psychological effects of a sniper! Suppose you have just survived a bloody struggle against an enemy squad, or perhaps you have just evaded an enemy APC... a single sniper round will seriously make you mad.
