Speaking of light machine guns, what ever happened to the RPK? I never see the gun in PR anymore. You would think that the insurgents or militia would have the gun too alongside the PKM...

I just had a somewhat crazy idea how to "attack" this problem. If a player gets shot by a machine gun and dies he will not be able to respawn for an additional 30 seconds. This will strike fear into most players I guess :)

Of course it is not realistic (well respawning is not realistic in the first place) but it might affect gameplay positively. Certainly there needs to be a counterbalance to prevent senseless rambo re-enactments but that part is not that hard to work on.

Thinking outside the box! I like this idea, if you can't make the supression effects in game happen make the phycological (sp?) effects increase. If you know that your death will result in a much longer spawn time from LMG fire you will avoid it a bit more.

The key to this succeding I think is educating players about this penalty. If people have to sift through the player manual (alot read the manual, alot don't) to find one line about this a moderate percentage of players will understand the rule. However a broader form of education would perhaps help educate a larger groupd of players  Something in the QM kit selection text; example: "Player I have supplied your support kit (1 of 4) NOTE: DEATH FROM LMG ADDS 30 SEC TO SPAWN TIME!" This might get a few more players attention. However I think the Devs are trying to drop the amount of text.

I believe there was talk of supplimenting the PKM with a few RPK kits a while back, but that idea my have died a death.

I really like that, Fishwork. When the trailer for BF2 came out I was very excited because it looked like you were able to mount guns on stuff like in Day of Defeat. I have always wanted deployable bipods.

There is a problem with your idea, however. At least I imagine there is because I do not think you would be able to prevent the player from turning. So, you would basically have a mounted MG that is not attached to anything, letting your turn it 360 degrees. However, I do not think this is a major problem compared to the fact that MG's would be more useful and realistic.

My idea for 'giving MG's bipods' - a way to make them better without having to create scopes with all-new artwork and so on, just minimal changes - would be to let them be like now, only instead of maxing out at the current accuracy they would keep getting better. They would never become as accurate as the real mounted guns - that does not seem right - but still considerably more accurate than they currently are. Naturally, the best implementation would be that they gained the accuracy like we have now followed by a pause of a few seconds where they did not gain additional accuracy (to symbolize installing the weapon) followed by a large boost in accuracy when weapon was set up. However, I doubt it is possible for BF2 weapons to gain accuracy in several 'stages' like that so it is the best possible compromise. To me, it would also be ok if MG's gained accuracy slightly slower than currently as a tradeoff for being able to 'deploy bipods'.

Deploying bipods would work for all stances, not just while prone. This would let you setup a solid MG position even in bunkers where you cannot go prone (as is realistic). Naturally, the neglible problem with my solution is the same as with yours: 360 degree view. But with my idea you do not get the ammo issue.

i think people would use machine guns more if you say... mounted a minigun on a humvee.

You need to read my post again: I am not asking for 2142 style increased accuracy when firing, but simply when not moving for an extended period of time. I took the liberty of quoting you for a suggestion, here: http://realitymod.com/forum/showthread. ... 3#poststop . The devs did not instantly write it off so maybe we will see bipods in the future. We can always hope!

Interesting take on it. So basically if you stood still for 10 seconds you would have approx. 70-85% accuracey as prone? You could stand at a window and if you didn't move around to much you would have enough accuracey to put down accurate fire? This sounds like a decent idea. I don't think it would be exploited to badly as A) you have a max of 4 per team B) if you're standing still in the open for 10 seconds you are extremley vulnerable.

This might be decent workaround

Not just as prone - 70-85% as mounted. 10 seconds is excessive, though. Four of five sound more reasonable to me.

You will always be frustrated in [PR] by lone wolf john rambo solo players, who think of themselves first in-game. nice tactical basics in your original post.

I've one thing to say, come and join the PR Tournament if the regular PR pblic servers don't quite cut it for you in terms of tactical planning and practice. Feel free to look me up IG, as i also enjoy the more tactical side of things.

It sux imho, it's nothing compared to RL...

If you are shooting towards enemy, in RL they would search for cover, and wont leave that cover untill the firing stops. In BF2/PR, people just stay where they are, and return fire. Most of the time I get a headshot, and if I kill them, it's just; ''Oh, he killed me... will spawn on RP/SL in 20 seconds''

They wont care if they get killed or not, and that's the problem.

Imho it's like any other kit, but has more ammo.

I am looking to join a tournament! Unfortunately the main one does not seem to be accepting signups at the moment.

best experience i had in PR was this one time i was SL'ing a full HX squad on Jabal Al Burj.. think we were 2 medic, 2 saw, 1 rifleman and myself as SL.. we deployed on the East side of the Dam, in the mountains there and i had my binos up spotting targets and calling them out to my 2 saw gunners over ventrilo... it was absolute havoc.. no one managed to take us out!.. absolutely beautiful!

I still say more of a "white-out" or hazed effect as a metaphor for suppression technique. It would allow similar suppression results. Its not really realistic but the final effect would generate the disired result = suppression. I'm not going to extremes with this like its IMPOSSIBLE to fireback and your screen is totally white....just more of an effect, it'd be cool if the Dev's could test it out personally make a final discision on it being that the beta process is nearly done.

I think the machineguns are fine, especially if either a) they get scopes or b) my/Fishwork's bipod suggestions are implemented: http://realitymod.com/forum/t23220-bipo ... ifles.html

I enjoy all things machine gun. If it's a vehicle I like to be the gunner. Heli? Gunner. On foot? Support. Yet, I have to admit that it's very difficult in .607; especially as Allied Forces now that the MEC infantry have scoped weapons. So I played medic a lot instead because, hey, even if I couldn't see the enemy at least I could heal my teammates.
