*looks around, just checking I'm in the reality mod forums*

For the sake of realism, It'd be better if Brits, U.S, China etc.. were forced into squads. How often do you think you'd see a Marine strolling about the battlefield on his own, with no audio contact with the CO?

Insurgents wouldn't have such a tight squad system. As Engineer pointed out early on in this thread, Ambushers sometimes like to wait alone.

If a noob can't handle squad-play in an organised army, then they'd only be any use as an insurgent. If they're forced into a squad but don't wish to be a good squaddie, SL will kick them from squad, QM will court martial them for not being in a squad... bye bye lone wolf.

If I come across an enemy soldier and im fighting for the insurgents, I'd expect to see more than one.... realistically speaking... 8)

Edit: I didn't vote for this reason.

true but they would just keep swapping from 1 squad to the next. and what if your fav server is almost full you join and there is no room in a squad and the max squads have been reached...then you have to be kicked? that can happen cant it? im sure iv been in a server with no squad spaces left on the team...

I like the idea of playing in squads. This is PR and that's what it's all about. Working together in a realistic fashion. The problem I have with the idea is that...one. You are taking the ability NOT to have it. Servers do it and its fine, but it should be the server admins perogative whether to use it or not. Secondly BF2/PR is an imperfect game. We get squad bugs and glitches and what not that would and DO cause people to be kicked who would gladly be in a squad if they could.

I agree with the idea, but don't agree with making it mandatory for all servers. If you really feel that it adds so much more teamplay, then just avoid the servers that don't have said script. I mean, if it's soo beneficial, then every server will have it, no?

I dont see the argument. Obviously i have to say yes, you must squad up. I mean what faction doesnt have squads or cells. Find me an army that doesnt have organisation of even the basic levels and then i will reconsider my vote. but i reckon all players must accept the fact that they are subordinates except for the commander who is running the show. and if you got noobs on your squad or a silly commander, you can always kick or vote them out.

Everyone here who wants the mandatory squading seems to be under the illusion that every player on the server actually wants to play as a team, now I'm not sure when you last played PR but I'm pretty fookin sure that about 5 out of every 32 players on a team, would soon rather have a sniper or be off lonewolfing somewhere. You just watch next time you play how many people are on the battlefield by themselves. People dont play PR just for the "team play" a lot of people play it because it has such a different feel than vanilla, they want to look and try the different weapons and vehicles. Its unfair on genuine teamplaying SL's to have these sorts of people in their squads. Fair enough you oculd kick them from the squad but they'd just keep squad hopping, which imho is worse than people just sat not in a squad minding their own business.

The autokick is definitely the ultimate weapon against "unassigned" lone wolfs but the biggest issue I see is the squad limit. It's not a problem to join a server and find out that all squads are either locked or full. If I find myself in such a situation and realize it's a map I don't know much about and wouldn't be able to lead a squad effectively, I create a 1 man locked squad, pick rifleman/engie, try to get behind enemy lines and sabotage / gather intel or pick an engineer kit and move assets where necessary / follow commander and repair / build whatever he wants to. It's not something squadmembers would enjoy. Too bad for me, I'm a damned lonewolf missing the squad teamwork and so on but at least I'm useful to the team. The real problem is the squad slot I take. Some servers have "no locked squads without a good reason" rule but that's a double edged blade. I was kicked from such server while playing with 2 of my friends, guessing other people would be frustrated by a squad leader talking in czech (look at how many times is a foreign language speaking squad leader mentioned in the "your worst experiences in PR.." thread").

Yeah exactly, didn't come to me before, but that's a valid point. There are alot of lonewolfs taking up places in squads cos they HAVE to be in them, where a proper dedicated squaddie could be there helping out. Especially in those %$£^$&%*£%^&£^%&"^"$&%^$&$£"!$^"^&£^*(}{:@:~L>"£$%!£" servers that won't let you lock squads and you get the same idiots re-joining despite your relentless kicking. As much as I love T&T server it really7 $%$%s me off.

Squad limits are particularly bad on armour heavy maps. Personally I like a squad per piece, so you can maintain clear comms with your gunner/driver and driver can use the attack markers.

also you get the dreaded retard squad, a hole squad of people not talking and the SL is a sniper and spread out everywhere.

everyone keeps bringing up TacticalGamer as an example. I usually leave that server for all the idiots in it that DONT TEAM PLAY EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE IN A SQUAD.

basically, people WILL NOT play PR the way YOU PLAY PR just coz they are forced into a squad. I would rather have the piece of mind knowing the guy that just joined my squad actually wants to be there.

I totally agree that it is up to the server admins. If you thing this idea is so amazing just go play in TacticalGamer'se server all the time...coz surely it must always have great games seeing as they are forced into squads...?

Sorry for all the shouting....but this really does feel like a load of religious nuts trying to force me into church.

Ragni<RangersPL> wrote:1. There are bunch of noobs and newbies. They are joining your squad just because they have to, they choose randomly the squad and then they go lonewolfing again.

2. Another scenario. Some of the squads are locked (2 players helicpter squad for example) and some of them are full. New player joins the server and he can't join any squad (locked/full) and also he can't create his own squad because of BF2 engine squad limitation. People offten type in the chat something like: "OMG FAZT, OPEN SQUADZ PLZZZZ!!! If nothing changes, 90 second will pass and POOOF! He's gone. Server is not full but he can't play.

90 seconds limit should be gone (main reason, point #2). Players already have to join the squad if they want to request kits. If you want to force people to joini squads and staying together then maybe increase (a lot) respawn time for those who are not in the squad, but then squad-bug would pain in the as*

Just leave it without that kind of limit.
T&T servers make it so you can't lock squads...

> > they manage their servers quite well

i've never had an Issue there...

Really in all reality, i think people should have a smacktard Background Check before downloading the game. XD *laughs* MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ^_^

If you want to have fun, go to a PR Training Server... ;) Playing chicken with A10 and Little birds is fun (i took out a littlebird with the tip of my wing, hit the roter, they couldn't keep control, lost it, ;) i won that round ^_^)

Im not saying I never have a bad game there, but I often do have a bad game there and end up on a server like RIP or T&T (that do not force squads) and I have intense squad team-play action on them almost every time! :)

Im saying there should be the choice (like is already in place) those who want forced squads; go find a forced squads server, those who dont; go find a non-forced server. I ALWAYS play in a squad, but I still want the CHOICE. Please do not force this unnecessary point-proving onto people, its hard enough to find a decent populated server sometimes...imagine how many people would not bother playing anymore because of this.

changing this would not turn everyone into super-army-soldiers that you would like in your squad. It would make alot of the people stop playing...especially all the (casual) PR players that do not frequent these forums...and Im sure there are alot of them.

I find the average idiot on TG is still greater then the average idiot elsewhere

Every army has idiots or whatever, if they are in a squad then theres a squad leader and a commander to look over his actions and possibly prevent poor use of assets, etc

I do think there is a lack of control over sl by the co at the moment which is letting the system down. You do get Col Kurtz type renegade squads who wander off & waste the teams assets & tickets, I want co to be able to remove their rp and maybe get some authority back. Unfortunately thats probably not even possible :/

hm...
in my opinion its a good thing, just because of the reasons that have been said before:

-Lonewolves will be kicked and sent to another server
-newbies will better see how pr works (and makes fun)
-Teamplay will work much better than without it

but i think there should be servers without running this because playing as a lonewolve is not a very bad thing, its just when i want to play on a totally teamplay server, i join tactical gamers, when i want some people on the server to do their own things, i join other servers.
