Let's follow TacticalGamer's example - make being in a squad mandatory!

The only server that I play on is TacticalGamer... and the main reason is that you must be in a squad or you get kicked within a certain period (I think it's 90 seconds, not sure).

If you're not in a squad, playing PR is completely useless. People that aren't in squads are pretty much dead weight in a server anyway.

Forcing people to be in a squad will do a number of things:

a) weed out the players that solo on everything.

b) newcomers will be forced to join a squad and 50% of the time they will join a good squad with a good squad leader that will show them what PR is all about.

Let's face it, unless you've been playing PR since the very first public release (Karkand and SAW gunner anyone? ) the only way to really understand how PR is supposed to be played is by joining a good squad.

Even those of us that are PR vets have learned a lot by playing in good squads. Not everyone can read the entire manual and being in a good squad for 1 round will supplement the manual because everyone is willing to help. Newcomers can only truly learn by example... but not everyone understands that you must join a squad to do the various things in the game.

HOWEVER, the notice to join a squad needs to be a little more in your face. There are so many messages at the top of the screen that many newcomers just won't notice. As a result, they may be kicked and get really confused as to why. A message in the center of the screen stating that they must join a squad or they will be kicked is sufficient.

Not that I think the 90s thing is horrible, but if a server doesn't want it on why would you want to force them?

I only agree with this one because of the current average standard of play and it's always good to see RAMBO being kicked after a minute cos he's far too ub3r for the rest of us.

We should make reading the manual mandatory in order to play the game

The question is, why not?

It's hard enough to find a server where people are playing PR as it's meant to be played. Why do you think devs have restricted the release of the server files to servers who sign up? The server files aren't public because too many people were modding the servers to do stupid **** like 5 second spawn times.

Most servers that don't have mandatory squad joining have many players that aren't in a squad. Are you saying this is a good thing?

Why not force people to join squads? It would only promote the gameplay that PR is.

My experience exactly, this is what got me hooked the very first time i played PR.

With you on that one. And if your on a TS and then you havet o use VOIP and TS at the same time. Hard to do.

1. There are bunch of noobs and newbies. They are joining your squad just because they have to, they choose randomly the squad and then they go lonewolfing again.

2. Another scenario. Some of the squads are locked (2 players helicpter squad for example) and some of them are full. New player joins the server and he can't join any squad (locked/full) and also he can't create his own squad because of BF2 engine squad limitation. People offten type in the chat something like: "OMG FAZT, OPEN SQUADZ PLZZZZ!!! If nothing changes, 90 second will pass and POOOF! He's gone. Server is not full but he can't play.


90 seconds limit should be gone (main reason, point #2). Players already have to join the squad if they want to request kits. If you want to force people to joini squads and staying together then maybe increase (a lot) respawn time for those who are not in the squad, but then squad-bug would pain in the as*

Just leave it without that kind of limit.

In my experience you actually play the game an awful lot better when you're physically sat at the keyboard.

Soooo you think that the people who actually run the servers you play on pay over £130 a month just so you can Lock yourselves away in a 4 man squad when there's a load of newbie players who can't learn bugger all because all the good players are in locked squads.

If there's a plank who keeps insisting on getting the bugged sniper kit then slap him, If that dosn't work then tell an admin

What's difficult about making your TS button the same as your VOIP button? Or using Voice activation on TS, allocating a mute button, and using VOIP mainly.

Heck, I sometimes lonewolf just because I am not in a mood to teamplay. I just want to have a good time, without someone yelling at my ear TEAMPLAY you FOOL!

Then I'd much rather have someone on the server who will join a squad and work with his team to create an enjoyable game for all involved.
Rather than someone waltzing alone around the server using a slot that could be for someone who will contribute towards the game as a whole and not just for himself

This constant ridiculous arguement of "ohhh I'm far too Ub3rz0r L33tz0r to be playing with the rest of you commoners" just dosn't wash at all with me.

I NEVER lock the squad unless someone who was in it has been DCed or if someone has been waiting in line to join .
The excuse of "I'm too good to play with anyone apart from my friends" is ballocks.
The best games happen when clans get their heads out of each others arses to actually show newbies how it's REALLY done in lots of separate squads, TS can also link all the squads together making things even better.

Instead of using servers for your fun by going Lonewolf, Locking squads etc. at the cost of others and I'm not just talking about money here, When someone steals vehicles to use as their own lil run around theres 6 people now without transport (and folk complain about running?)
Why not try instead to actually teach these newbies the ways of PR and how it can be enjoyable and concentrate more on improving the quality of players that play with you and bringing the standards of games up much higher than what they are when full of lone wolfs and people "not in the mood"
After all that sounds better than going solo, wasting everyones time and assets, Just to go on the forums later and complain about "Teh Nubz" and how bad they are.

Imho if you aren't in the mood for teamplay then don't be in the mood for PR

bad idea! great now you have alot of squads full of lonewolfs doing nothing that the commander requests..

how is it any better then letting them be on their own? they will join squads much more now because they need RP's to spawn in or they will be stuck in main. So no need for scripts forcing it!

Lone wolfs are already penalized enough, why force them in squads, let them run around and get killed then sit at main or the carrier.
Only thing we need to do, is somehow disallow people to get in a squad request a sniper then leave and still keep that rifle.

to the people that said no you are completley and utterly mislead about this WHOLE mod. The point is to be in a squad, talking, or typing, to your squad mates and getting the job done. I say YES all servers should start to take this step forward.

I completely agree that people should be forced into squads.

But not being able to lock a squad is just silly.
Now for infantry squads locking the squad is useless but when people run airforce, tanks ect. squads its silly they can't be left alone in their own squad.
when i CO i prefer my squads to be specialised so i can get a quick overlook of whats going on and don't have to waist time telling a chopper squad to sent their 2 infantry guys to somewhere far away.
