This sucks hearing all this, I like the sniper kit. Sometimes I crawl around for an entire map and get only 1 or 2 kills, but the entire time reporting on armor or HATs and the like and enjoy watching them get taken out on my intel (this is almost always just as satisfying as playing any other roles for me). On smaller maps, if you're patient and wait in the right spots, you can stop or slow an entire advance by simply taking one or two out if the enemy isn't engaging anybody at all yet. Of course the downside to that is you can predict incorrectly and your team is able to get to the next flag, but its very nice when it works out. Also, on maps with reasonable tickets, when you can get 20-30 kills, you have a significant impact on the outcome of the game by tickets alone. There's nothing like having to retreat or request a supply drop because I'm completely out of sniper ammo.
That said, I hate the people who waste the kit. I hate people who get it in and infantry squad - completely pointless. I hate people who get bored too quickly and move closer to the action just to get killed - basically every time. Sniping CAN be the MOST BORING THING IN THE ENTIRE GAME when you're doing it correctly, if you can't deal with that then please don't waste it for people who can. Snipers, if you engage at only very near the edge of the sight picture based on the map (and you're not retarded with cover) you are almost guaranteed to survive. When you move up, it's the exact opposite. Yes, you won't be able to engage 95% of the people you see, but you'll live!! What's the point of getting close to the action if you're just gonna get killed cause your sniper rifle takes 6 seconds to shoot the same planet.

while alot of people here seem pretty negative about the sniper
i would like to highlighten the fact that when the enemy have closed to the main base entrances and the only way forward is to get the helis up, you need snipers to take out the aa guys waiting on rooftops etc or techs waiting in the distance.
a sniper is a good asset when used correctly its the same as hat kits that leave main and lose kit to enemy why u need a hat kit to kill tech is beyond me.
but as for players saying lets remove sniper class, we may as well remove hat kit and pilot aswell all seem to have pluses and negatives that are very similar.
not everyone likes playing certain kits, but lets let all enjoy the game.
ps. the biggest pet hate is the certain clans that only play usa etc and do the best to get you kicked when u get an asset or kit they want .

I fuckin* hate when I get into a game make a sniper squad and then I realize that there is a sniper in a Jet SQUAD. And im like "Nooby why did you take the sniper if you are in a jet squad" and they are like "hes a spotter" I fucki** hate that, to spot, an Officer would be perfectly enough, but no you wanna take a restricted sniper kit all alone without a spotter just so you could use your GTLD. Stupid people!

I find the sniper kit useful in the larger maps, when attached to an infantry squad, but providing overwatch and observation for them (And the commander) from a far. Like Kashan, comes in handy when a squad is assaulting those bunkers and don't have much support in the way of armor or aerial.
Most of the time though I like being an SDM, as it's a bit more beneficial to my squad, as I'm still moving with them, but can glass out to farther ranges than the ACOGs that most of them run.

I think the main issue with the sniper kit in PR is that the sniper is not rewarded for recon which is what he is supposed to do. This leads snipers to go after the points by killing people. This = bad...

i am sorry for taking a spot in your team just to get sniper kit , we dont have many choices . sniper kit requires a sq with 3 members but ppl dont realy like to be a spotter that lowers our chance to get the kit , and ppl in other SQs could take it even they r not in sniper sq so mostly we have to join in a sq to get the kit then create a sniper sq
pls stop being a hater because u cant get it or we r on the edge of the map somewhere . we play game for fun and nothing is better when ppl say it was a good game at the end of the map so be polite . u could hate them that is ok , u could kick them from your sq that is also fine , but TK them and talk shit about them is rediculous . when we save ppl we dont hear good job sniper , but we r happy . it is something special seeing some1 in the eyes b4 u kill them , make them fear u is the best moment
freeway, I did not read the 10 pages of responses, but thought to ask you this - Did you consult with your squad leader before deciding to pick up the sniper kit? If you didn't, then you must consider that you were reproached for what you decided to do on your own, and when instructions weren't enough, you got run over. That should be the end of the story. I gather from the way you told the story that you did not consult your squad leader. Teamwork is part of staying alive, and lone wolves not only deprive their squad of another kit they may need, they may also be depriving a teammate of a weapon he's already been assigned to. Lone wolves lower team morale and affect unit cohesion. Let me suggest you go on Youtube and watch a few vids of PR British snipers teams in action, or the brilliant PR Brazilians in action vis-a-vis snipers and team work. They're awesome because of
teamwork. THAT's what PR is all about. I hope you enjoy the vids and garner something from them.

You ever think that the Sniper was asked to join the CAS/Jet squad as they didn't have an Sl as a spotter, plus I've had many sniper squads merge with the CAS squad for ease of communication then when they eventually die, if they do they spawn with the Officer kit.

I think the main point of this thread has concluded that the kit itself is an effective weapon, if used in a dedicated role with spotters/working for CAS squad.
The main problem is what it represents, the sniper kit ----> like light to flies and most people generally do suck with it.

personally i like them and find them a valueable part of the squad. well marksmen for the most part.
when im on long desert maps etc i try to join a squad with 6 people, and ill relay information to them of whats ahead etc and things they cant necessarily see and all that. im also quite good at it.

I know quite a few people who with a sniper kit, could change the tide of the battle, especially on close maps like Fallujah and Archer. Generally I see them take the kit and I judge only after they perform, not before.

Not good enough. Make a sniper squad, you only neeed 2 people in the squad. you+spotter. So don't muck other squads up by getting kit and leaving.
And you must not be in a 6 man squad for this reason.
The best sniper teams hitch a ride in a truck with another squad then walk.
That dude shouldn't have run you over, but you weren't doing ur SL any favours either.

People don't use the kit properly, people that come from like CoD 4 and think this is some run and gun shooter think sniper is all about NO SCO3P's and shit.
Also when someone takes the kit they ***** and complain all game and bother admins and other people.
Kit should be removed.

Kit is good as it is. It's the people who are problematic.
Hell, I spent whole last year playing sniper as much as I could. I was both gunman and spotter. And I saw some serious idiotaries:
1.) People stay in one place for too long, or they fire over 2 shots from the same place.
2.) When compromised, they either keep shooting or start to run like nuts, not even looking where the hell are they going.
3.) They rely way too much on other squads to save their arses. If a sniper cannot take care of himself, then he shouldn't be a sniper at all.
4.) Most snipers are lazy slackers who probably sit whole day in the chair and wank IRL - which translates into PR. They all want a pickup to the frontline, instead of some useful jogging for 1 km. It is not that much. Besides you can spot something "on the run" if you're on your feet.
I believe that with introduction of Mumble, snipers got a brilliant chance to be the most useful asset on the field. But people are hardcoded.

I hate when im sniper shooting target 500-600 Meters away, someone with G3 / scope spot me and shoot me with one shoot, just a bit urealistic
