[0966] Shijia Valley intense rubber-banding

Post by James2464 »

Description

Rubber banding through entire gaming experience for everyone involved on all corners of the country(Australia), I believe this to be a bug as this is obviously not the experience felt with maps the same size like Kashan, Iron Eagle or Fools Road.

Are American or European players having the same problem? (no threads on this issue)
If this is indeed a server side issue how can Australian PR mitigate this?

Steps to reproduce

Open up the map on a public server and you shall notice rubber-banding straight away.

I confirm this, such a shame as well since it is a master piece of a map; love the theme by the way.

We have had some reports of players CTD'ing due to memory issues, but as of yet no reports of server rubber banding. I have played it on three servers now (Tactical Gamer, Project Reality Brasil, and TeamPlayerGaming) and none of them had any rubber banding or lag. Maybe a smart server admin reading this can offer some insight or recommendations.

I have the same issue. Map is still playable and very good, but those little constant warps, makes it very difficult to fly chopper for example. However it does not happen to everyone. Maybe two out of ten guys from my clanmates don't have that problem, and map plays for them very well. Confirmed on multiple servers.

Most likely server side, I haven't had it at all on NwA or TG, but the weird thing was that certain people in my squad were having it, so could be down to personal connections or something.

This is what he means AFSoccer, the constant drops in FPS coincide with the rubberbanding (Ignore the flatline at the end of the graph)

Edit: Yay memory errors!

Rubberbanding on Shijia Valley does persist on our servers. However it is relatively minor though still noticable. Does create a nuiscance when piloting choppers.

Thanks for the added info guys. I'm going to look into possible ways to improve this. I really hope that I can accomplish this without detracting from the map but it's going to be tough.

Continue to provide info that might help, such as:

- Is the lag more persistent when more people are on the map?
- Does the server re-start periodically?
- Do you see this on all layers (even Skirmish)?

Thanks :)

I noticed the some rubber-banding when everyone spawned in main and in the next minute or so. But not after that (if I remember correctly).

Noticed some rubberbanding on skirmish the other day, TG server. Walking west outside of the brit spawn i encountered some rubberbanding for about 20 meters maybe, than it stopped. Got some performance drops around the middle of the city-nothing too severe or made the game unplayable, but still enough to slow things down a bit.

TL;DR- Maybe removing some statics would help?

For me the rubber-banding is intense in the first 2-3 minutes and then its gone.

Edit: Not as bad as jungle fire's ungodly lag but still annoying driving into trees and fences.

For us the rubber banding is consistent through the whole game, it will rubber-band every 5-10secs consistently.

Amazing map, so much infact people are willing to lose afew things for that extra boost in performance if that is the solution I wouldn't know.

I think it's important to add that some clients have advised that they have had no issues on the BigD servers and those who have had chugging have reported different experiences from marginal to mild. Personally I'm going to turn down my settings (currently run everything on high including AA to the max) to see if that alleviates my (mild experience) problem.

I'd also appreciate the input of somebody with preferably some testing experience to draft up a bit of a plan which we (being clients as well as server admins) can check in a coordinated approach - rather than rushing to rash conclusions as to where the issues lay (it may be that it is a combination of things going on here).

Played the map now on several servers: Coffeshop, Hardcore and some others i cannot remember right now.

For me and my buddy it is pretty much the same:

Rubber banding extreme at round start. After 2-10 minutes it gets way better.
The rest is like the normal "hickups" which occur on many maps on many servers for us from time to time even though the rigs are not the problem.

IIRC all my rounds had the same route without the flags down south. Only the northern were active. About the layer idk much because we almost never take assets but always have HAT or TOW to destroy them ;) There were Warriors, Challengers, Apaches and the new Jeep ...which is awesome to look/shoot at!

Really loved the map so far, would be a shame to get rid of it...i say pls see what you can do to fix it but if it is not fixable i guess i would still be playing this map!

Kind regards!
