just reinstalled pr .96. no error message, just closes. prerror.log quotes
"System.ArgumentException: Der Verzeichnisname C:\Users\David\Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/Default ist ung?ltig.
bei System.IO.FileSystemWatcher.set_Path(String value)
bei i..ctor(String A_0)
bei k.a(String[] A_0)"
means:
"foldername bla bla is invalid.
at...
at...
at..."
any way to change that link or do i have to reinstall? ways to prevent that from happening again?

"Alright try this. If you need further explanation don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks [R-DEV]Twisted Helix whose answer helped me understand what the problem is.
For me the decision was a copy from the Default folder in the C:\Users\Admin\Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/ from C:\Users\Stadtherz\Documents\Battlefield 2 (thats my user login).
And now everything works.
Nevertheless, I must test the solution for some time, to make sure everything is stable"

I copied the content of the ORIGINAL BF2 file (in program files, ea games) into my documents, if thats what you meant. Still nothing."

Re: Folder name invalid on startup
i think you have a different problem there. im pretty sure my problem occured because i installed pr on a different partition, not on the system one (sorry i didnt mention that in the first place). the bf2 folder in my documents doesnt even exist. furthermore i only have one user account, which is the admin. For me the decision was a copy from the Default folder in the C:\Users\Admin\Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/ from C:\Users\Stadtherz\Documents\Battlefield 2 (thats my user login).

Re: Folder name invalid on startup
i tried reinstalling and had the same problem again, im pretty convinced now that it is a problem with it being installed on another partition. the problem is my system partition isnt big enough for pr. on my last hdd it worked fine so there must be a way. any ideas?

Re: Folder name invalid on startup
Actually simply start regular BF2 once, this will initialize the required profile folder in "Documents".
Then try PR again.
Then try PR again.

i tried that, with the same effect: bf2 attempting to start and simply closing.[R-COM]SnipingCoward wrote:Actually simply start regular BF2 once, this will initialize the required profile folder in "Documents".

the problem is solved though:
although it contradicts with everything i know about computers, kains advise worked.
running it in xp mode solved it.

Re: Folder name invalid on startup
This is really bothering me.
I keep reading people having issues when not running compatibility modes. Yet a lot of people (including me) actually advice not to use compatibility mode (as of our experience shows it works).
Would you mind providing which Win7 exactly you are using (Home Basic/Premium etc, 32 or 64 bit)?
And if you have a Service Pack installed?
Are you running UAC?
Maybe we can find a pattern (i.e. something like: compatibility on 32 bit is required ON, on 64 bit it needs to be OFF).
Thanks.

Re: Folder name invalid on startup
i know what you mean. But i have looked at it myself and it seems be more problematic on 64 bit than 32bit. That includes Home Premium and Ultimate from my expierence. i have both the x86 version and 64.[R-COM]SnipingCoward wrote:This is really bothering me.
