[0966] Random firing while playing?

Post by Dobbeh »

Description:
Found out about a month ago that while in-game (even before the latest update), my gun would randomly fire. BUT, this is what is confusing. To me, I will not even be touching the mouse, and according to those around me I would be firing off shots. While this is happening, I get no firing animation, unable to reload as if my mag is still full and no sound either. Its almost like my game has a mind of its own xD

Did notice though yesterday while playing as INS on Korengal while carrying the PKM, I would get muzzle flashes from the gun, but no sound and again, unable to reload. While my squad was diving for cover, thinking we are under attack...
Only happens with rifles and pistols. LAT or HAT kits (including TOW's) are not affected it seems.

Steps to Reproduce:
Seems to happen mostly when I sprint and walking. When sights are up, nothing "apparently" happens.

Screenshots / Video:
I will try to get a video up this evening of a round, 99% chance someone will mention about it. Can also get some people to post who have found this out for me.

Tested On:
Every server I have been on, regardless of map or layout. It was the NwA lot though that noticed it for me.

Have tried to re-install everything including vBF2 and all updated to the latest versions. Tried to even change my mouse thinking it was too sensitive but it still happens. All drivers are updated and correct too.

It is irritating seeing most servers think I'am greifing, even though I don't mean for it to happen! Plus it gives us away, so no super sneaky ninja cache hunting for me...

Sorry for the long winded report, but it is getting annoying!!!!! Any help will be appreciated :D

I can confirm this. Dobbeh has been suffering from this for months.

Everyone around him can see/hear him shoot, while he isn't actually shooting at all. Kind of nasty when it gives our position away.

Doesn't happen often, and is rather sporadic.

Haha he could be trolling :D ... But I think I've heard of something like this before. As far as I know it's only animation and sound, no bullet is actually being fired in game. I'll se if I can find the thread about the same problem.
Do you have any third party program running to support PR other than mumble?

Hmm it does seems like it's a bug that appears rarely. I've found some threads about the issue but the problem doesn't appear to be solved.

Here are the threads:

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f26-pr-bf2-bugs/93678-weapons-plus-sprinting-bug.html

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f26-pr-bf2-bugs/80283-0917-firing-while-sprinting-3p-world.html

The third thread is about a guy shouting random stuff. It could be related IMO:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f26-pr-bf2-bugs/80684-random-verbal-spouting-2.html

Since it's not you that are shooting the weapon but other people in game can see you shooting I can only imagine it to be a server side problem. Do you play with high ping or very low ping?

Very low ping if the server is UK based or Euro. Ranges between 20 (UK) to 120 (US servers like TG).

The other posts suggest that it happens if you pull the trigger(left click). Are you clicking randomly while you sprint or is it just happening?

to the people of the other threads saying they are pressing shoot, fingers off the trigger buddy, or i'll ND your ***. fire arms safety ;D dont touch the trigger if you dont want to shoot!

If you're using a laptop, it could be you tapping the scrollpad with your left palm.

It all happens, even when I'm not touching the mouse! And no, its not a laptop.

If its the sound effects just going, it's a vanilla bug. To resolve this you'd switch your weapon to something other than your present weapon. If it's not that, this'll be the first

But doing so isn't as effective as carrying the weapon in the first place.

I.E. Someone comes round the corner...

Thing is though... If this is exactly what I'm thinking it is, it's only a quick switch.
Let's say you have your PKM out as insurgent, and your teammates nearby are complaining about the noise, switch to your knife, rock, or anything other than the current weapon. That should stop the noise, then switch back.
Switching your current weapon should stop the noise, then you can switch back. Of course, it may start doing it again later on, but you just have to switch your things again.

Played a few more rounds this week.

Had only one issue according to my squad. Rest of them where fine. Guess I'm just gonna have to live with it...

Just as I said, if it is what I think it is, it's probably a vanilla bug, and there's no way for the PR Devs to fix it

Isn't it the sound bug? The game often likes to make it sound like someone is continuously shooting. Happens only on fully automatic weapons though.

Are you doing something special? Tossing ropes, grenades, smoke-grenades?

I had the same thing last night on PTRA on Operation Archer.

I was walking with the scout gun and I believe (only occured to be than) that after sprinting my gun would fire of a few shots. Also when I used my mouse scroll the weapon selection menu to the bottom-right of my screen wouldn't pop up.

I switched to a grappling rope, however, that didn't fire and the problem was gone in a minute or two.
