Lag issues?

Hi, I recently installed your v0.97 of PR. My PC is more than capable of running the mod according to your recommended system requirements. Yet whenever I join an online game I suffer crippling lag regardless of ping. I have joined several different servers (in an attempt to rule out that it was just the server I first joined) and the result is always the same. I have even reduced all my graphical settings to low ( to improve the GPU & CPU performance) and still suffer the same problem.

Can anyone tell me what the hell is causing the game to lock up periodically like this as I REALLY like the look of it from the videos I've seen and its disappointing to join a game and not be able to do anything other than get killed repeatedly.

I REALLY want to be able to enjoy this as its probably one of the best FPS mods I've seen in years so any help identifying and solving the problem would be EXTREMELY appreciated...I'll even give out free cookies to the first person to help me solve the issue

I doubt quite so much was needed but i just copied the full Dxdiag report just to make sure I didn't leave anything out.

So can anyone tell me what the problem is or how to solve it??? I can play normal BF2 1.5 with no problems...but I'd much rather play this!!!!

Yes its DDR2 RAM.

And I'd say average FPS on most maps is around 50-70 with all graphics set to low, but I know that my machine can handle better...so why isn't it?

As comparison, standard BF2 with all graphics set on full gives about 60-70 FPS average

Unfortunately that's higher than I was expecting for your specs... PR is quite a fair bit more processor intensive than BF2, and there are some things that need some fair levels of optimization. Reasons why PR is more hardware/processing intensive than BF2:

• On average 1.5-3x higher view distance (based on the sample of 6 BF2 maps I just checked with 300-600m VD)
• Over AND Undergrowth increased in density and draw distance
• Increased object density in many cases
• Higher poly models and/or bad LOD values/models (Gary for example, no LODs)
• New kit geometries
• Much larger maps and thus assets, exascerbating the above points (althogh a bit redundant to include)
• The engine seems to struggle with a large density of unique/different objects, as such both the processor AND graphics card don't work at full capacity, reducing performance significantly.

So since your computer has trouble maxing out BF2 (you're not achieving >100fps), PR will really struggle. I would argue your CPU is fine, but if it was me I would upgrade to >=4GB of ram, and when I had the monetary means, I'd upgrade my graphics card to a HD6770 at the very least.

No... it's simply a 'whole computer' issue unfortunately. Technically your PC should be fine for PR but unfortunately due to engine limitations & optimization issues it requires quite a beast of a computer to run @ all high settings.

RAM is a cheap upgrade, and it will definitely help your load times & the initial lag when you join in, but for actual FPS improvements your graphics card (and probably CPU) would also need upgrades.

I was playing on 'TacticalGaming.Com' server last night, map was Muttrah City and I was achieving ping of around 60 (average for most of my connections to UK servers) and my FPS was a minimum of 98. So something isn't adding up right there if its my PC thats the issue.

Hold up, where were you, were you on the carrier? Or inside the city? Take a chopper and fly around the city, go on Ramiel, go on Fallujah, Iron Eagle, Koregnal, Lashaktar Valley(the maps I have most trouble running on ANY setting) go everywhere, THEN test it out.

System requirements have to be updated, it has to be more like; "a top-tier computer and lots of luck. If not, your computer hates you."

Because I still can't run it on high with i5 core and most of the latest hardware
