Crashes in Co-op

Hi! I'm playing co-op with a friend, but on some maps it crashes to desktop. On Ramiel it crashes soon after starting, on Muttrah City it crashed twice after bloving up a MEC armored vehicle with a hand-held rocket launcher (Both AT-4 and SRAW crashed it) and some other maps. Is this because of my computer, or something else I'm missing? Is it possible to host a dedicated server for lan play?

Post your PC specks when asking questions like that please.

I think so. Just run a game on an extra PC box on your network, but if you have a PC with a Quad CPU and +4 gigs of ram I would think it could 'host' a game OK. How many players would you want to have on the network?

+1 we need specs to answer that, as for hosting a server you need to be licenced server admin to host a PR server of any kind, hoowever you can start a local coop server and install software like hamachi or tunngle and see if you friends can join you ( they must have hamachi or tunngle installed too )

And you dont need a monster machine to run PR server, some newer dual core with 1+ GB of ram will do for linux ( no gui ) for windows 2+ gb

My specs are: geforce 8600gt (256mb) 2gb ram and an intel q6600 (2.4 ghz).

Would I need a license for lan? If no, where can I get a server software for it? It would be just 2 people.

There is no way you can get the server software without licence however you can ask some of the DEVs...I'm not sure lan play even works since PR has only Singleplayer mode, but as I said it might work across net trough hamachi or tunngle.

Your specs are low try decreasing number of bots and your video settings. Bots use a lot of raw CPU power and high textures and AA eats both RAM and VRAM...lower your settings and try again.

Its not the same running a dedicated server and starting up a lan server on which you play, plus bots plus your friends...dedicated server uses some 400-500 Megs of RAM and upto 30% of CPU ( Xeon ) when idle on coop, and goes upto 100% CPU load on map change or high bot numbers. Dedi server works like a console and that what youre trying is bogging your machine a lot. Try doing what I said and see if it helps

You wont be able to get a server license for a LAN server and its not possible to host a real dedicated server without it.

But if you really want to host the server on a different machine I recommend you to install PR on the machine you would like to host the server with, boot up the game and select create "Local game" (iirc) in the menu.
This will work for deployment and COOP servers.
Like Massive mentioned you either need to be in the same LAN network or use an application like Hamachi or Tunggle to create a virtual network.
I know this is not a real dedicated server but afaik you can use your CD key twice in local it shouldnt matter.


But have you tried to play these maps on an online server? I'm not really sure if the CTDs are related to low PC power...it might be something different.

Recently I have noticed some problem with .NET framework, it tends to sandomly throw an error message at me. Does PR use .NET? Could it cause map/action specific crashes?

I believe this should be question for ones with DEV tags not server admins ;) but AFAIK it needs .Net 3.5

It would be helpful if you could get screenshots of those errors and post them here.

As for this question it is already been answered...you can try starting PR on that laptop, setting all graphics and all possible settings to low and then form another PC in LAN try joining that LAN IP....but beyond that there is no other setting that you can alter AFAIK. No need for Hamachi and Tunngle if you're on LAN then.

It tells about an exception and that it can't find a file. It happens if I don't press anything for a few mins.

Be sure you have .net 3.5 correctly installed (better reinstall it).
Keep in mind that you will need exactly 3.5, 4.0 wont work!
