[?] RHIB replacement
Hey there, me and a friend have recently decided that we wouldn't mind contributing to PR, and we thought that maybe it's time the RIB (Boat) was replaced. As far as I'm aware the RIB isn't actually used for landing IRL.
What viable replacements are there?
Currently we are considering a LCM/LCVP, although they fit lots of people (less ingame-seats or something maybe?)
Or a LCAC with storage crates or the likes to fill up space, or perhaps, not sure if its possible, allow the LCAC to spawn a support humvee or two infront of it.
The problem is, with these two vehicles they fill a role similar to the choppers, therefore we wondering if there's anything on a smaller scale that could be used to replace the RIB?

Re: [Vehicle] [?] RIB replacement
The australian mod have got some interesting models in production which may replace teh (vBF2)RHIB however a full-on LCAC would probably be appreciated, be aware that I've had rather alot of C2H5OH tonight (Alcohol) and secondary opinions are recommmended. We've been after landing craft for a while, however we can work around that. if you have 3ds modelling experierence, inform [R-DEV] Gaz or another DEV and we'll assign you approrpriate tasks. so much red wine and Beer
Edit, the above is pretty much right, I'd PM a red tag for a task.

Nothing stopping you from making a wooden or fiberglass boat with small outboard engines. they would be useful for insurgent type water vehicles. think of ramiel with a couple of these on it.

Re: [Vehicle] [?] RIB replacement
First of all, Scr3amX2, are you offering to make this model? If so I believe its way above your skill level mate.
But anyways for starters, I take it your talking about USMC Landing Craft here (correct me if I'm wrong), but the USMC haven't used any LCVPs for a very, very long time and "LCMs" are pretty much non-existent.
The only landing craft the USMC really use today are the LCAC (which you've already mentioned) and the LCU (Landing Craft Utility).
Now to start with the LCAC, it would be pretty much useless in PR. As I posted recently in this topic: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... stion.html
Which brings me onto the LCU, which as I mentioned above would be for starters, easier to make and would be a lot more useful within PR. But this is still something not easy to make well with lots of details. For starters, its massive, big problem when it comes to texturing as it would most likely need something like 2x 2048x2048 sheets or something to UV it all on. Next it would really have to be made in high poly and baked down to a low poly model to really get all the details in which is something that requires quite a lot of modelling experience to do well.
But to your point on a RHIB replacement, neither a LCAC or LCU are going to replace a RHIB. The USMC and other Marines still do widely use RHIBs for amphibious assaults, although the USMC don't seem to use them very much granted that, although they still do use them.

(USMC Recon team)
But for the USMC, the realistic replacement for the RHIB is in fact already here and its the AAVP7A1 which is pretty much the spear head of any large USMC amphibious assault. Although that doesn't mean it should fully replace the RHIB as its still used by the USMC, just not in anything like as large numbers as the AAVP7A1. The main reason to keep on using the RHIB ingame is simply gameplay balance, can't have 20 AAVs running up the beaches and all over the maps now
But saying that, we really could do with an LCU to bring up the rear
Also if this is a question, this really should be in the General Discussion forums, not in the community modding, unless you actually plan on making a LCU or something? But even so, if its a question before you make something, again, it should be in the General Discussion forums... - Moved.

'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;1679978']For starters, the LCAC is something that's quite tricky to make, not impossible but tricky. It would also be more sensible to model a LCU rather than a LCAC which dose the same job as a LCAC, apart from it can carry a lot more equipment and can't go on land. An LCU is also more widely used in the USMC.
Dunno where you heard that from, the LCAC is possible to make yes, although making the skirt work well would be a bit of an issue but you could still have a working hovercraft ingame, just perhaps with a static skirt or a skirt which is inflated the entire time and moves about, even when no one is using it. But like I said above, it would be a better idea to make a LCU instead.[RIP]-Chido312;1679961 wrote:now from what i read on your suggestions forum about things that have been suggested you says it is hard coded and cant be done. but what i keep hearing from a majority of mod makers in BF2 that it can be done, it just has to be coded like the LAV, so that it can go from water to land.

Re: [?] RHIB replacement
I have tried to create a Zodiac with Outboard a while ago in this thread:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f388-pr-bf2-community-modding/85347-how-do-i-model-bf2-3.html
The boat itself looks decent to me, it's the engine that is hard to get reference for.
Maybe you can give it a try, I'm not an experienced 3d modeller so maybe you can be more successful/productive.

Re: [?] RHIB replacement
A Zodiac 470 / CRRC would be a viable replacement as a landing craft, as they are not only used by the various Recon units but by the "boat company" of a battalion landing team. 11m RHIBs are in use by some MEUs for VBSS and other ops, though. Some of them appear to be using the same model as the NSW Special Boat Teams, but I've mainly seen them armed with M240s and not HMGs (like the SBTs).
