Getting a new computer

Post by alanm4a1 »

Hello all,

I am not a big pc gamer, but really would like to start playing project reality. I am currently a student teacher and have recently dropped my computer and am in search for a new one.
I came across this laptop that was in my price range and was wondering if it would be capable of running Project reality.
Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS5560G-SB485 Notebook AMD A-Series A8-3500M(1.5GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi AMD Radeon HD 6470M

Ps I don't know much about what all the specs mean and am in a rush to get a new laptop for around 5-600$ so if this is not good, or if you have another suggestion please feel free to let me know.

Thanks again
Alan

the computer isnt that strong but it will probably be able to handle PR on medium/low settings.

It will lag like hell. And 15" screen is not enough for PR.

Interesting, its a new A series AMD CPU with int. GPU with 1 GB gddr3 Vram and a dispay of 15.6" @ 1366x768

I'm not sure but since its a quad core cpu @ 2,4GHz and VGA has 1GB Gddr3 dedicated vram it should be able to handle PR well with a few tweaks here and there possibly. Since WIN7 comes preinstalled, tweak it a bit, and disable all power saving features when running games.

If you really must get a laptop then go for it, but Id recommend getting a desktop PC for that purpose. Let us know how it works if you decide to get it.

You should think about this instead, it is $40 more but is almost exactly three times more powerful GPU. Newegg.com - Recertified: HP Pavilion dv6-6135DX Refurbished Notebook AMD A-Series A8-3500M(1.5GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory DDR3 640GB HDD Blu-Ray Drive AMD Radeon HD 6750M

Actually, the HP 15" with AMD APUs were considered best bang for buck for entry level and casual gaming, you however lose quite a bit of CPU horsepower in the trade off with all of the AMD APUs no matter which manufacturer.

check this link, select the AMD Radeon HD 6750M and the AMD Radeon HD 6470M then click on the "restrict" button on top to build the comparison.

2. Midrange Graphics Cards
These cards should be able to handle all current games with fluent framerates but not all with high detail settings. Especially demanding games may only run in low-medium detail settings. However, you can get some cards in smaller form factor laptops with good battery life.

3. Low-Midrange Graphics Cards
Low-end graphics cards for users who want to play games. New games should run on these cards, but only with low details and mediocre resolution. The power consumption (of modern cards in this class) should lead to a good battery life.
