Vista Screenshot software suggestions?
Apparently my previous screenshot program has failed to function, so I'm looking for a new one. I need something that will take screenshots properly from games, not so much for desktop captures.
OS is Vista 32, I need something that is either free or demo/trial of 14 days or more. Primary use is to capture screens from games like Skyrim, BF2/PR, etc.
If you have any good suggestions, post there here (with links if possible).

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I always thought FRAPS was just for video capture.

Xfire can the same pretty fine and its free. Downside is only that you need to register account in order to use it, nothing else. It should keep screenshots locally on hdd and it has option for upload which pops up after you close the game.
Fraps is free trial, thus be aware of possible limitations. I know from before that it would only capture video for limited time and then it would stop, not sure about screenshots.
Also if you got Steam you can cap screens pics from it too.

Just ran FRAPS, works fine. Saves images to BMP only with the trial, but I tend to use PS6 to trim the images anyways so I can convert format if needed.

BF2
R doesnt need any software to take screenshots.
While in game if you press Print Screen it will automatically save the screenshots in:
Libraries / Documents / Battlefield 2 / Screenshots.

I knew that, but last few times I tried my screens were completely black. Might have something to do with AA or AF since I use that from recently.Mad-Mike wrote:BF2R doesnt need any software to take screenshots.

Yeah, I was actually looking for something that would function in other games such as Skyrim. While those programs do usually include built-in screenshot commands, my PC is a ******* and most of the time it fails to work. Plus when taking screenshots in BF2 with the built-in option, the game freezes for a few seconds each time.Mad-Mike wrote:BF2R doesnt need any software to take screenshots.

Actually, it's not really OT. I often have the same problem, both in BF2 and other games. My system is getting pretty old, and my specs are honestly not even supposed to run most of the games I play. I can still run them (sort of), but we're talking drastic FPS drops (some games average 3-8 FPS). So when I attempt to pop a screenshot, some games will crash completely, others will lag out for several minutes, and others just give me black screenshots.MaSSive wrote:I knew that, but last few times I tried my screens were completely black. But after messing with FRAPS, I'm seeing zero FPS hit, zero lockups or crashes, and the images save just fine. I don't think I'll be using an in-game screen capture command from this point on.

Just to be clear Im not running Vista either ( got Win7 x64 ) and I too have this "problem". My guess is that modern graphic cards with AA or AF on, plus the newest drivers and plus the Vista or Win7 does not work with Print Screen anymore. Might have something to do with Aero too. Print Screen is after all for 2d graphics or Im wrong? It used to work with older 3d games on DX9 but seems like not anymore?

Sorry to pick up an old thread, but for those who search these forums later for answers (as many do) Xfire has a good screenshot facility.

Sure card is DX11 capable, but did you run DX11 game and test if it works? But your probably right. It might be just my setup is wrong or Im using some feature that wont work with this, but I dont know what this might be. Only thing I changed in nVidia CP is to force AF 8x. Might be it, but I dont really need prinscreen. Got steam, got xfire, got fraps.
