Player takes damage in tank
First off let me say I think it's SO lame watching these BF2 and every vehicle that gets hit simply explodes... pieces everywhere.
In real life a few things will happen ot a tank when it gets hit
1. Killing the crew members inside
2. Disabling the treads rendering it useless
3. Disabling the engine
A tank won't just simply explode. this thread kind of goes with the vehicles staying on the map.
I think you guys should implement players taking damage when their tank gets hit. Make it possible so the crew can die, but the tank is still (resonably) drivable.
When a tank reaches 0 HP, maybe it should just stop and its treads fall off or something
and when it hits -X amount of HP the engie explodes.
either way the tank would sit on the battle ground for say 3-5 minutes, and over that time, i beleive someone suggested, that it would slowly break down (be on fire parts fall off and dissapear) and of course that tank wont respawn until the first body is gone.
I think this would put emphasis on vehicles always being full which would mean more teamwork.
I don't know if you guys have had thread like this, but this is just my 2 cents =P

im not sure about tanks, but RPGs mess up crews in lighter armoured vehicles, such as bradleys and LAVs, so just because your in a vehicle doesnt mean you should feel any safer.

I dunno about the tread and engine thing, but as for killing the crew in a vehicle without destroying it is possible, well at least I'm pretty sure it is. One of the features of BF2 is material penetration. IE shoot through doors n stuff. You might need to change some material IDs on the vehicle model or something, but that's not hard.

Well Dont many, actually most .50 sniper rifles have the ability to fire through a light armored vehicle using AP rounds, I'd like to see the ability to shoot out a vehicle engine using a Barret .50 cal.
Also for tanks, well if some rounds wont travel through a tank, can we atleast mess with the guys inside, such as if a semi large round hits the tank, the players screen may fade black for a couple seconds and a maybe their hearing goes away for awhile and then slowly increases again. Many games implement this with grenades, a grenade goes off near you, and you lose your hearing ability for awhile.

BF2 doesn't do that type of thing, you'd need an SDK. In my old post it was just a matter of coding blocks inside of the penetratable armor that would take damage instead of the entire tank being one big mass of hitzones. As well as crew compartments that would actualy seat the crew so that if a shell went in there they would be killed. As for weather or not it can be done on vehicles... it can. The attack helicopters have "bullet proof" glass that can be shot through... all PR needs is "everything proof" armor that can be shot through by Anti-Tank shells and such.

yea that would be soo much beter becuse tanks would not have to be respawned as much to or even at all becuse you could repair the busted down tanks and the the tanks chaise could be used as cover or even a statoanry gun if the turet is not destroyed. and the point of the KE round is for it to perce the hull splinter the armor and make it like shrapnal to the tank driver

This could be done using the same effect as when the commander drops ATY near you in Vanilla BF2 right? Also for tanks, well if some rounds wont travel through a tank, can we atleast mess with the guys inside, such as if a semi large round hits the tank, the players screen may fade black for a couple seconds and a maybe their hearing goes away for awhile and then slowly increases again. I would assume if your tank gets hit with a shell it would have some serious concussion to the people inside (and smaller amor like LAV's with an RPG?) Only problem with this IMO is that it would change gameplay big time. First tank to spot anouther would almost always win because the first round would blurr the vision of the tank being hit. It may be another "Is the reality factor worth the gameplay factor"...thankfully not my call

Re: Player takes damage in tank
The tank would be pretty much ruined if the crew were dead from a direct hit from an RPG or shell etc. Unles it was death by gas or internal exposion.keef_haggerd wrote:First off let me say I think it's SO lame watching these BF2 and every vehicle that gets hit simply explodes... pieces everywhere.

Pretty much if a shell gets inside the tank then the tank wont be much to use anymore.
As far as killing the tracks i remember a quote from 'The Beast'
"Out of commission become a pill box, Out of ammo become a bunker, Out of time become heros"
Allthough id screw the last part and run for it. But still a tank without an engine or ammo doesent mean its useless yet. Since when tanks are finaly made as tough in PRMM as they are in reality they will last allot longer. No more 2 c4 and its gone and no more Mobile AA blowing them up, grenades cant hurt a dam tank either!
