Crash to Desktop on startup after installing .97 map pack

After I installed the .97 map pack, I haven't been able to start up PR properly.
It just keeps saying "pr.exe" has stopped working whenever I attempt to start up PR. Another thing to note is that PR is no longer showing up in the vBF2 mods menu.

You have the steam version, right? Looks like the problem everyone with steam is getting.

nope, retail version. not sure why it's doing this, tried the steam version fix, did nothing

Same issue here. I had this issue a couple months ago and put off trying to fix since I was playing prarma2. Launching from pr.exe the first time after patches it hung for a long time then something about configuration was fixed message.

"BF2.exe has stopped working"

With a black square top left corner of monitor. I suspect it's a video resolution issue but not sure.

I highly doubt this has anything to do with the map pack as all that's added is some files in your levels folder.

Try running BF2 vanilla, play a multiplayer game, then load PR.

Sorry, I didn't read the thread title. I'm having this issue from a clean install of bf2 + 1.4, 1.5 and pr.973
Going to try again before map pack. The only thing I've changed is a new monitor.

Edit: not related at all to map pack. I selecting disable desktop composition in pr.exe shortcut properties seems to have worked. Sorry for getting lost in this thread ;-(
