PC/Graphics card won't connect - Help!

I've been so tired by playing shitty graphics so I bought this one: Saphire HD6790. It required extra power, which is fine i guess. But the extra cables i got didn't match with my computer's!

not so important but here's the other end of the cable looks(looks the same on the card)


so, how do this? do i have to buy custom cables that costs 60euro? anyone knows which cables i should use?

I'm sure you can go to any electronics store and ask for the adapter for the cables, will be cheap. You'll probably be looking for something like: "Molex to Six (or eight) pin connector."

All new PSUs actually come with the cables necessary for this.


Your PSU has to have some Molex connectors on it already, maybe you used them all?


Edit: ahhhh I see now. You actually need some "Molex to SATA Power" cables.

ok thanks alot! i see that would work...but would it be easier to have the *LAST PIC* (the 1x6Pin?) connect to the SATA?

If you can find a proper adapter between them yes. All of the different cables from the PSU should be 12v no matter the plug.

The one from the last photo goes to graphic card, and one from second goes to PSU 4 pin molex plug. If you do not have one to spare for it do not install your graphic card until you get one.

Only thing I could find is this one ( 15 pin sata to 4 pin molex adapter ). But if you can find another cable for direct connection between sata plug and graphic card that would be better.

If you go with this adapter I advise you to secure it with a piece of tape to avoid accidental break of power to vga.

This one is quite unusual. Mostly PSU have those 4 pin molex plugs. Are you sure you do not have at least one coming from you power supply?

What graphics card did you have before? and what PSU are you using?

I don't think there will be enough amps transferred through the SATA cable...
Most modern(even old) PSU's don't supply the same voltage through each cable, for obvious reasons, that some parts don't require the high voltage, or would not cope with it.

As a quick example (first one I found on new egg, nothing special). check the outputs here, and the connectors. Each connector will have its own voltage and amp ratings. (Modular is just the fact you can unplug unnecessary cables, makes the case neater + airflow better)

Anyway, this I've also found some molex to SATA wires but that isn't the problem anymore.

I've checked the amps on PSU and it's MAX 160W. The 6790 require ATLEAST 500W so i'm pretty much screwed anyway.

I'd say this could be locked.

So 8300gs has no additional power supply source, so you never needed one. That explains it, and to answer you yes you need new PSU and go with at least 500W if not 550W 80+ certified. Just to keep it up with any future upgrades.
