Need help choosing library software

Post by PLODDITHANLEY »

As I moving to a smaller flat I would like to put all DVD's, music CD's even games on a hard drive using I assume a library program.

I want to put everything on a separate HD and then access it from one of three PC's in the flat.

Nero 4seems a good choice anyone got any opinions on this kind of thing?

Heya Ploddit,
Nero Home servr 4 is simple to set up, not at all a bad choice.

The PR tech forums are the hinterlands of HTPC discussion, go to the source:
Home Theater Computers - AVS Forum

are any of the three PCs able to be turned into a dedicated HTPC?
Have to keep one PC using Windows OS? Lots of better options in the Linux and FreeBSD OS family.
You have MUCH MUCH better options than Nero4homeserver, though Nero4 is very decent for the ripping process.

Tversity, Amahi, openMediaVault, XBMC, Twonky, list goes on and on.

Thanks litoralis:

At the moment all three are on vista. I'm not looking at home theatre just a way to store all the CD's and DVDs instead of have them uselessy take up a whole wall.

Thanks for the link.

Don't know if you've already decided, but I found this article that could be of interest. It works as a file sharing system on a pc I believe and should enable you to access it all from anywhere connected no matter of the operating system. Does require a reasonable pc, but the shortage recommendations are personal preference I believe.

Error-Service Not Available

Sorry for it being the mobile version :P

Pedz, openMediaVault is the "successor" fork of the FreeNAS platform. Both are really cool, openMediaVault will be expanding hardware and file types compatibility going forward. openMediaVault is run by one of the original programmers of FreeNAS,
anyways, both are great, just takes time to grasp the differences and aligning the different features to your personal needs.
