[Static Model] Pitched Roof Apartment [WIP]

Post by Psyrus »

I wanted to help some more and decided to try my hand at something slightly more complicated than my last model.

Taking inspiration of Vadso's google street view, and the reference images provided by the Norwegian faction (although they're quite low resolution/low detail), I came up with the following.

I have subsequently been asked to make an enter-able variant which I'm currently working on. So far I've only had to use Vadso's exterior texture as an external sheet, the rest use the current PR pallets. As you can see the apartments aren't welded to each other as I only work on the bottom left (front) and then clone it for exports/SS so I don't have to do 8x the work. At the end I'll be welding the vast majority up, saving on tris and giving a cleaner looks overall.

Information:
Roughly 16mx34mx14m
~4000 polygons LOD0 without the enter-able component. I suspect this will push to ~5000+ afterwards. Heavy optimization possible, especially in LOD1-3.

I would specifically like texture advice [especially for the windows] and advice on what simple models I should put in the interior of the apartments (keeping in mind I'm trying to keep the textures as generic as possible... I already have 6 materials used). So far I'm thinking a kitchen counter and maybe shower area in the bathroom.

Have noticed that they often seem to not line up with the floors, leaving a gap which looks bad, not sure if its due to the model itself or the mapper.
I'm not really sure what you mean... Could you get a screenshot or mad-paint-skillz it?

I'm going to see what various tidbits are available in the statics directory, but a sofa/TV aerial would probably do just fine, thanks!

Looks like it may be the model, checked lotsa buildings on Silent Eagle, single story, two story.. anything with a chimney/fireplace they were the same as the pics below.
...
Have seen the dishes alot and they are probably a bit large you usually see them on much larger buildings, is there a normal TV Aerial model ?
Ah ok I know what you mean. Basically what happened is that when the guy was making the static(s) he either forgot or didn't realize that low end users see LOD1 up close, so he deleted a ton of faces that make a significant difference if you view the model from the inside @ LOD1. See here for difference:

High end user sees:

Low end user sees:

As for the antenna etc, I'll see what I can figure out.

@ the windows, if you have a non-enterable building you can have empty 'fake' rooms behind them

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand? How would I make the 'fake' rooms?

I assume Andy is getting at just a simple box behind a for example open window, to make it look like there is a room there. As you are nearly always on the street it just looks like you are looking at the ceiling of the room as you angle is so extreme.

A lot of the Vbf2 middle east buildings have them for reference.
