Jet/heli HUD too bright

Post by Bor »

I come across this problem alot when lets say piloting a jet on kashan or black gold , its really hard to tell what does the speed meter or the height meter say. Yesterday i tought the height meter said 1600 when it was actually around 3800 because the BG was too bright (sky). I flew out of the map and it took me about 5-10 minutes to return the jet below 3500 and turn it around...
So is there any way to change the HUD color? Or any other way to solve this except finding a dark spot in the sky

Darken the HUD, or tone down the sun. We're not playing on Frostbite 2. XD

Here are some HUD colour codes that I use
BLACK hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0 0 0 1

WHITE hudBuilder.setNodeColor 1 1 1 1

GREEN hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0 0.8 0 1

RED hudBuilder.setNodeColor 1 0 0 1

LIGHT GREEN hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0.5725 0.8666 0.2352 1

BLUE hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0 0 1 1

YELLOW hudBuilder.setNodeColor 1 0.706 0 1

ORANGE/YELLOW hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0 1 0 1

PURPLE hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0.5411 0.1254 0.836 1

ORANGE hudBuilder.setNodeColor 1 0.2705 0 1

You can also double up on HUD items, with a simple copy and rename (added the #1 to end of first line)
example below

Before

hudBuilder.createPictureNode F16PilotHud F16AltitudeBox 539 279 64 32
hudBuilder.setPictureNodeTexture Ingame\Vehicles\Icons\Hud\Air\Attack\F15\Navigation\altBox.tga
hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0 1 0 1

hudBuilder.createTextNode F16PilotHud F16AltitudeValue 527 293 40 10
hudBuilder.setTextNodeStyle Fonts/vehicleHudFont_6.dif 1
hudBuilder.setTextNodeStringVariable AltitudeString
hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0 1 0 1

After

hudBuilder.createPictureNode F16PilotHud F16AltitudeBox 539 279 64 32
hudBuilder.setPictureNodeTexture Ingame\Vehicles\Icons\Hud\Air\Attack\F15\Navigation\altBox.tga
hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0 1 0 1

hudBuilder.createPictureNode F16PilotHud F16AltitudeBox1 539 279 64 32
hudBuilder.setPictureNodeTexture Ingame\Vehicles\Icons\Hud\Air\Attack\F15\Navigation\altBox.tga
hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0 1 0 1

hudBuilder.createTextNode F16PilotHud F16AltitudeValue 527 293 40 10
hudBuilder.setTextNodeStyle Fonts/vehicleHudFont_6.dif 1
hudBuilder.setTextNodeStringVariable AltitudeString
hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0 1 0 1

hudBuilder.createTextNode F16PilotHud F16AltitudeValue1 527 293 40 10
hudBuilder.setTextNodeStyle Fonts/vehicleHudFont_6.dif 1
hudBuilder.setTextNodeStringVariable AltitudeString
hudBuilder.setNodeColor 0 1 0 1

Yes, if you are talking about changing one of this 4 files

fileManager.mountArchive ../bf2/Common_client.zip Common
fileManager.mountArchive ../bf2/Fonts_client.zip Fonts
fileManager.mountArchive ../bf2/Menu_client.zip Menu
fileManager.mountArchive ../bf2/Objects_client.zip Objects

But if you change it you won't be able to play in multiplayer.

same colour as a real HUD, I surmise real pilots have to deal with this issue too.

The issue isn't of color, it's of brightness. HUDs shouldn't be washing out unless you're flying towards the sun or something.

IRL you can adjust the brightness of the HUD, at least in the Viper depicted here.
User Ubaydah: "I used to play Call of Duty a lot and Battlefield 3. I am really good at those games 10th prestige, High K/d., I can kill people easily, etc. But on PR, for me, to be honest, I kind of suck."

User Not_able_to_kill: "Frontliner, you like evil man who comes to family house during christmas, takes out tree because it's too happy, so they can be just as sad as you"

On qinling you can't, it's impossible the map is way too bright.

I never really had any issue with brightness of some maps when flying any sort of air asset.

but it would be real nice to get a more dark green.

That brightness of the hud is what we are asking for, the aircraft on kashan for example are fine and the hud never washes out. Then grab either the J-10 or Z-10 on black gold and you will really have to concentrate just to see your hud, just making it a darker green like that RL example would be fine.
