I will upgrade my gpu to a XFX HD5750 1gb gddr5 Newegg.com - XFX HD-575X-ZNFR Radeon HD 5750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card,
my PSU to a HEC 485 WAT PSU Newegg.com - hec HP485D 485W ATX12V Power
Supply - Power Cord Included,
and add two gigabyte of ddr2 800mhz memory Newegg.com - PNY 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model MD2048SD2-800-V2. Can I run PR bf2 on High settings, and play Arma 2 on medium with decent FPS.

Re: Can I run Arma 2
First, your CPU is never going to allow you to play Arma2 on anything above mostly low/some medium settings. You will also have to drop down to 1440x900 resolution.
Second, do not buy a 5750 for $80 after rebate. Go to deals/coupon websites and find a HD5770 or 6770 for same price.
Third, that power supply will work. I'd suggest you would require a larger power supply if you try to overclock, HOWEVER
fourth, I am not sure you can overclock your motherboard, it probably has a locked BIOS.
And I'd also price shop the DDR2 RAM.

The websites in bold are your best bet to find a better quality and cheaper video card. Also maybe RAM and PSU.
start checking online deals websites daily:
my personal preferred bargain hunting websites:
slickdeals.net
fatwallet.com
bensbargains.net
dell.com outlet deals in conjunction with coupons I find on the web.
amazon.com Gold box deals
email subscription to newegg.com for their daily deals
email subscription to us.ncix.com for their weekly deals
others I check from time to time:
techbargains.com
subscribe to tigerdirect.com email daily deals.
subscribe to buy.com email daily deals.

Re: Can I run Arma 2
Even if you get dual core AMD Athlon 4800+ it wont make any big difference for Arma.Socket type: AM2
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
- Athlon 64 up to 3800+
- Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology up to 4800+ (up to 65 watt TDP)
- Sempron - All
Purchasing powerful graphic card while having a weak CPU also wont take you anywhere, since it will bottleneck. Your CPU will be on max load while your GPU will not, and it will cause FPS drops and stuttering.
Getting another 2GB of DDR2 is a good decision, it will help you play PR:BF2, and in general upgrading GPU will help PR:BF2 wise.
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f449-p ... ments.html
You will able to play Arma2, but the question is will it be playable or slideshow. You got the point I guess.

Re: Can I run Arma 2
My budget got bigger now six hundred to seven hundred dollars. I need some help choosing my parts for my custom build. I will use this computer for senior year and gaming and I want some help. Do you think an amd fx 6200 plus a gtx 550 ti with amd performance ram 8gb dd3 or a Intel i7 2600k and I will buy a graphic card later or is a Intel i7 a waste of money?

Re: Can I run Arma 2
If you go for intel, get the i5 2500k, not the i7 2700, you won't need it unless you're considering lots of design/movie editing, (Although much of this can be done on GPU's nowadays). So yeah stick with i5 or AMD for cost effectiveness.

Re: Can I run Arma 2
If you want to run cheap and fast, you can reuse your:
1. PC Case
2. DVD Drive
3. HDD
Buy a combo deal on:
1. CPU: from expensive to cheap: i5-2500K, i5-2500 , i5-2400
2. PSU: At least 500W, preferably 550W or higher if you buy expensive GPU or try to OC your i5-2500k.
3. Motherboard: You MUST buy a Micro-ATX , commonly called MATX form factor motherboard if you reuse your Case. You should buy a cheaper Z68 chipset MATX motherboard.
4. GPU: from expensive to cheap: HD 6870, HD 7770, HD 6850, HD 6770 . The AMD/ATI Radeon HD series uses less power and costs less for equal performance. You can not buy an extremely long HD6850/6870 as it might not fit in your case.
5. RAM: DDR3 8GB 1600 CL9
6. HDD: or SSD. Depends on how much cash you have left after picking out other items.
7. OS: If you are a student you can buy a copy of Win7 for as little as $35 , or for free and a bit of time you can get a copy of winServer2008r2 and convert it into a DRM-free version of Win7.
8. Extra Case fans. The new CPU and GPU and PSU will run hotter, need better airflow.

Re: Can I run Arma 2
The other option is a AMD FX-6100, AMD FX-8120, AMD Phenom 1055T 1065T or AMD Phenom 965 BE .
This one is nice because of the motherboard, upgradeable in future:
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard (Model:GA-990FXA-UD5)
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!
US$420-$30 Rebate. Then buy a PC CAse, a Video card and PSU. (Plus tax and shipping?)
Total around $655.
Or:
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!
$510 Plus Video Card. (Plus tax and shipping?)
Total around $640.

Re: Can I run Arma 2
I plan on getting an amd FX 6100 cause there is no big difference between it and the amd FX 6200 other then it's overclocked and comparing the amd FX 6100 to the intel i5 2500k I would get the amd fx 6100 cause of its price to performance ratio and the fact that in the future games will use six cores
I will not reuse my laptops hd cause my parnets will use but I will get it from a thrift shop that has a bunch of old computers and I will get the optical drive from there too. My case will be a NZXT phantom 410 which includes three fans and has good air flow. My psu will be a Corsair builder seris cx500w. Mobo will be an Asrock 970 extreme 4 which will be nice for future ram or SLI/ Crossfire. Ram will be 8gb off AMD performance ram clocked to 1600. AND graphic card will be a GTX 550 ti (Not an AMD fanboy
). Those combos you showed me Litoralis are nice but ill rather pick my own components.
AND one more qustion guys which will be better in the future fx 6100 or intel i5 2500k? Thanks for the info

Re: Can I run Arma 2
CPU: SB 2500k is the best choice and you still have to OC a bit so choose the mobo that in mind. Anything less powerful and you will struggle with the fps sooner or later. 2600k is a waste of money for Arma2 but you might need it for Arma3. There is zero diff. with 2500k and 2600k in Arma2. So save 100$ there.
GPU: choose at least 560, 560ti, 6870, 7850, 6950 or better. Anything less powerful and you will struggle with fps sooner or later. And even the previously mentioned will not stand easily any AA in Chernarus with 1080p and higher.
HDD: Buy a SSD. Makes things smoother.
RAM: 8Gb of the cheapest kind. 4gb might be enough but ram is so cheap nowadays that you can go for 8gb straight away. Doesn't matter if it is 1066,1333 or 1600Mhz, cos the difference between those is 0.01% (derived with Stetson-Harrison method) or less in practice.
I learned my lessons the hard way; Do not buy AMD cpu for Arma2, ever, no matter how good deal u get, period.

Re: Can I run Arma 2
I like thos compnents but the Mobo and PSU are to expensive I was thinking of getting a crossiar builder series 500watt power supply. If I got a cheaper mobo I could get an i7 2600k. And I will salvage my HD and optical drive so I will make it cheaper cause HD are way to expensive sinse that flood in asia.

AMD FX-8150 and FX-6100, Bulldozer arrives on AM3+ (page 20: 3D gaming: Crysis 2 and Arma II: OA) - BeHardware
+ personal experience. Overclocked Phenom II 955 was radically slower than stock 2500k. Ofc there is 100$ diff. in price between those two but totally worth it. But you still have to OC 2500k to get most out of it. 2600k will not give you any extra on Arma2 compared to 2500k. So save a 100$ there.
