Free head movement?
I think i know the answer already, but what the hell. Is it possible for the head of your character to be allowed to move separate from the rest of your body such as in Arma? I have played many games and watched many vids that would benefit from this greatly.

No it isn't currently in game not even sure if it possible. But if it is it would be very appreciated so we don't have friendlies sticking their guns in my face when they are looking at me.

what i know for sure is, that what you see ingame is dictated by a camera that the animator manipulates. every thing is an animation... run, sprint, deploy, shoot, reload ect. And the head bob thing that chuc put in is a camera tilt pasted into every animation.
I recently saw a guy mod skyrim's programming code for the eyes to sync with the camera. in other words, there are predesignated third person head animations and that would work a lot like the camera that is in many games. similar but different. Skyrim's 3p animations are similar to bf2 in the way that the animator makes 3p animations and the animation files are frame based, so its possible. (or so im told)
However, getting the camera that is in game and linking it to track-IR would probably mean tinkering with the game's programming, possibly making it hard-coded. Or (and bare in mind i have no programming skills what-so-ever), it might be possible for an outside program to analyse the head's movement from ingame, but getting that to work in reverse probebly means breaking hardcode.
A lot of people for a few years here have been very eager to just jump to the conclusion that something is hardcoded, but after seeing a good few things broken into by very creative programmers (deployable assets, 128 player servers...)im starting to believe that most if not all things are possible with a backdoor. (thats what she said)

Well you can move your camera while in the game but head movement doesn't change. It would be cool even if your head doesn't turn.

oh yea, the other thing is even if a programmer did figure out a way, once you look down you would be able to see through your arms, and you would see floating magazines and stuff, so yea... chuc might kill me for saying that

From what I understand, if you have a really good system it is possible, only bug being you can't look up while flying.

uploaded by mosquill. the badass.
I remember seeing the vid months ago, but i thought it was combined arms headed up by CAS117, but it might be mosquill's code.
He's a busy dude though.

First I saw that feature on ARMA, it was really impressive, but as mentioned above - BF2's engine would be compatible with such a thing, unless A LOT of changes were to be made. I'm absolutely no expert in animation/modeling/programming, but perhaps if the first person camera included your whole body - you could see your legs too. It wouldn't be necessarily to be exactly as a 3rd person model, but still, just a guess.

Re: Free head movement?
Why dont you play arma 2 some more? We could use some BF2 PR players to warmen up some of the inroverts that play arma 2 apparently.
