Someone care to explain: Blurry screen when being shot at?

Post by epicelite »

I have been in many firefights with someone across the street from me, and neither of us can hit the other because the screen is blurry. I can understand why it might happen when a explosive goes off near someone. Why with bullets? Not just that but bullets missing and hitting something near you?

I think if I was in a firefight with someone I would focus extra hard on seeing them so I could shoot them, especially if they were shooting back. Especially if I had shot first and it just happened to miss and or not kill them immediately so they had time to shoot back.

Maybe the edges of the screen could go blurry, give kind of a tunnel-vision effect?

I dunno but it seems stupid to me.

It is encourages people to take cover. IRL, if he was across the street from you firing, you would most likely be hiding your *** off so the bullet does not hit or ricochet into you or you would be spraying with just your gun across the corner. In a situation that endangers your life, you behave very much differently then what you would think.

You are being suppressed. Your first instinct should be take cover. That's what the effect is encouraging you to do. When the time is right counter the target, and maybe you'll win.

Ok maybe that makes sense in SOME situations but 8/10 times it's me and another guy shooting at each other in a way that we just have to go till one of us goes down.

Like say I am a insurgent with a AR hiding down a alleyway and some Blufor start coming at me shooting I can't just get up and walk away I'm defending the damn alley.

It doesn't work in most situations and therefore should not be included, unless it can somehow be made to only work for those specific situations.

Don't play in SP. The bots don't care about supression, they will shoot you like crazy even if supressed. It works wonderfully online, fire superiority ;)

If you're defending a room or something like that in real life, and bullets starts to hit right next to you, behind you or in front of you, for that matter, you will think something like 'I need to get the fuck down'. Your ability to hit anything or think clear will decrease drastically.

The mod-team won't be able to affect your way of thinking because this is a game; they can't enter your mind. That's why they made the suppression-effect - it's an alternative way of scaring you.

I think the supression code is a little bugged, for example if a bullet flies 1in past someones head, no problem no supression, but if rounds hit a wall 20ft away or mortars explode 100ft above you while you are below ground, you get the supression effect.

Ummm no. Most people would agree its pretty damn good. There are some engine limitations though so this is probably as good as its going to get.

Remeber it doesn't only happen to you. It happens to your enemy too. Learn to use it agaisnt them.

Its in the game for a reason and honestly it really changes the way PR plays for the better. Its in game to try to simulate your player experiencing the fear of getting shot.

but that works just fine with the blurriness. SOPs for most armies for CQC are this:

if you're not taking cover then you're advancing straight into him, there is no time for aiming per say. in CQC its point and bang and keep walking towards him till he's dead.

if you had him in the center of your screen before he fired back, just keep his blurred figure there and keep shooting. IRL we don't keep a perfect line of sight be we sure as hell can still shoot, i find the blur just accounts for me flinching and does not affect my ability to engage targets at all in close quarters.

let your lead fly, don't worry about missing just shoot.

Yep, the suppression effect is pretty damn good. And everyone who says and thinks otherwise is wrong (now we're on the same level, ehehe).

Actually there is no suppression effect in close combat :)

At a certain distances the bullets do not do suppression anymore, would be annoying if a teammate shot a wall near you while fighting

If by most people you mean the people that frequent the forums sure. A lot of people disagree with the level of it or the idea at all.

It's been my experience suppression works at all distances practically.

While about under 30m - 20m there's no suppression. It's too avoid self supression.

It's simple. If you're getting shot at, you're doing it wrong. Close and flank, if it's a fair duel then you've already lost.

This effect has been implemented in the game for ages, I think it's safe to say that the majority of the people who plays the game today thinks the suppression effect is awesome.

Totaly true, although sometimes you even get surpress by your own team's fire when the bullets fly over the enemy and hit objects near you.

Sounds logical that. Doesn't matter who fired the bullets - they'll hurt just the same when they hit you.

I know it is just to show that even when you flank you get surpressed.

So is or isn't there some kind of 50 ft. minimum before this **** happens? Because I don't seem to notice one.
