I wanted to play some PR just now and for some reason I am getting this error

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows is you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher

But just last night the game worked just fine, what is going on?

Do not bump posts in such short time period please.

This issue might arise in case of malware or ram/hdd/file corruption.

If you are certain your game worked without this issue before and this just started recently, do a test of your RAM for errors, scan hard disk for filesystem corruption and other errors, scan your system with AV software of your choice and see where it takes you.

If none of the above is present you might have corrupted executable for some reason and will have to reinstall your game to fix it.

Is your vanilla BF2 running fine?

Post you full system specification with OS version.

Read trough this and make sure that you meet requirements for running PR.

1) Net Framework 3.5 SP1
2) Visual C++ 2008 32bit and 64bit if running 64bit OS.
3) Updated DirectX 9.0c to June 2010 version
4) Installed and properly configured/running BF2 1.5 ( + 1.5 Alt-Tab fix recommended )

Well, I did reinstall but it is giving me this startup, go to black screen, and go back to desktop problem now. BF2 Vanilla is working just fine

So you broke core game while trying to fix it. No problem delete the profiles. Go to My Documents and delete complete Battlefield 2 directory.

Note that doing this will delete all your profiles from the game so you will need to retrieve them once you do this.

Run BF2 vanilla after you delete its profile folder and retrieve your game profile, edit/customize video, audio whatever setting you want, and shut it down. Now run PR and make sure you run it as administrator or you might bump to same problems again.

If it wont run or crashes to desktop again after all this, add this to your PR shortcut

Do not copy-paste this but adjust to your target where game is installed.

This will skip intro screens, run game in windowed mode at resolution 800x600 and whats important will show on screen error if it happens. If so take note of it, or cap screenshot and post back here.

This last step is not necessary if previous give results so avoid doing that before you try the above ones.
