[?] Tips on editing terrain with photoshop

Hey guys, as the title says, Ive been wondering how you would edit the .raw file in photoshop to get nice results. It seems to me that it would be difficult because you cant actually see the results until you load up the editor. Cause if heard alot of you guys say you use it, just curious
