Whatever you do when playing PR, NEVER do this...
Suggest moving to another server which is already populated with a decent amount of people. Yes, doing this is completely normal and acceptable in the vast majority of games, but in PR its like murdering a puppy infront of small children.
It will get you a permanent ban.
Oh well... one less empty server I can wait for a good game on.
EDIT: Yes, I can accept that this can be annoying at times for people who run the servers. However, look at it from a players perspective - I see 4 servers with a handful of people on them - none having enough for a good game. If all players on all of those servers combined into one, then you'd have a decent game. In the time spent waiting for a decent game to begin on one server, another server could be filling up and people could actually be enjoying themselves. How many players 'seeding' your server do you actually think would stick around, if they new that there was already a decent amount of people playing on another server?

Summary?'Limeni[BiH wrote:;1825988']What? I don't get it?
He went to X, Y and Z server, all of which had <64 players on them, and suggested that they all move to server A because then everyone could have fun on a full server.
He was banned from X, Y or Z or all three for suggesting as such. He's now complaining about it.

while I support server operators grouping together to seed central servers rather than seed every single clan server out there, they do try hard to regulate and populate their servers...making it kinda rude to sabotage their efforts.

Providing people with information is not sabotaging anyones efforts. Its just providing people with information.Rudd wrote:while I support server operators grouping together to seed central servers rather than seed every single clan server out there, they do try hard to regulate and populate their servers...making it kinda rude to sabotage their efforts.
In other games with server licence requirements, an admin doing this would have their licence revoked.
It wasn't even 10. It was 3. I joined, making it 4.Trooper909 wrote:I thought he went on to a server with 10 seeders and said hai guys why don't we all move to a populated server.
I didn't just look at the servers, go "this one has more people, I'll go tell the guys in the near-empty server". I had actually sat in the server I was banned from for about 40 minutes, waiting for a decent amount of players. I went and explored some of the map I'd never seen before as they were areas around flags that rarely came into play. I tested out the deviation and practiced throwing grenades. I drove around aimlessly in a truck for a while. Whilst in the server, 2 or 3 people came and went, but none actually stayed. I even went and got something to eat. Eventually I gave up and decided I would try to find another server. There was another server with more people, but it was playing a map I didn't like.
Upon joining the server I was banned from, I think I said "Hey guys there's 7 people on [other server] if you're interested." That was it. I was intending to stay on the current server regardless of how many players came/went, because I wanted to play that map and I didn't like what the other server was running.
The admin replied "stfu you *cursewords here*"
I said: "That's a little extreme."
Then I was banned.
I've been playing online games for 15 years. Never in my experience have server administrators objected to people suggesting players move to other servers in the interest of a good game. Infact some admins I know encourage it. Most face a fixed price whether someone's playing on their server or not.
What we have here is server administrators who can't accept that we have far more servers than we need, for a game with a small population. There's a point where these people need to accept that in the interest of the games community as a whole, they need to put their clan-tags and own self-interest aside and jump on another clans server in the interest of a good game.
If a new player came along today, brought up the server browser, and saw what I saw tonight, (a bunch of empty servers, and a handful with 3-10 players in them) they'd probably go "game is dead", close the game, and probably never run it again.
We want this community to grow (I'd assume). Not shrink. I personally play from Australia, and rarely do we get more than about 50 players on the two Australian servers combined (both run by the awesome guys at BigD Gaming). I would love to see the community in Australia to grow to the point where both those servers were packed during prime-time. Growing a community sometimes means sacrificing somethings, namely the control you gain when you host and play on your own server.
I'm not going to bother appealing my ban. The server administrators know who I am and why I was banned. I checked their server rules, and there is no rule against providing information on the status of other servers. In otherwords, I wasn't hacking, I was swearing excessively, I wasn't team-killing, I wasn't wasting assets or stealing assets, and I wasn't breaking any written rule on their server, and I was still banned.
If they chose to lift my ban of their own accord, then I probably will play on their server, and even seed it with them when I can. I won't provide information on other servers whilst in the game out of courtesy to them, even though I believe this isn't beneficial for the games community as a whole.

tbh Rudd as a tiny point with what he said but imo what OP describes is totally reasonable and okay imo.
From what I understood, he didn't tell anyone to got to the other server and never ever come back to the original one.
That admin needs to chillax a bit!

Re: Whatever you do when playing PR, NEVER do this...
I seriously doubt it's a permanent ban...
Without knowing what server you were banned on.... In our case we usually don't set an expiry limit on bans - we want the person to appeal their ban a) it get's them thinking about why they were banned, b) gives us the opportunity to talk to them without disrupting the server population about what they did wrong and ways to prevent it in the future.
Personally I've warned, and kicked players for similar actions tbh.
Looking at it from a players perspective (other than your own) - there are a number of tools available for them to know what servers are populated at any given time... So pointing out the painfully obvious to the dedicated players who like to seed a particular server is 1) frustrating to the players who are trying to seed 2) disrespectful to the server owners who pay for a server - have you ever contributed anything to the upkeep of any server? Are you even a member of the community you were banned from?
Thanks for the unsolicited feedback.... I won't vouch for the other Admins.. but yes, I'm awesome
PM me if it was BigD and I will look into it for you....

It's their server, they have the right to do what they want with it. End story.

I'm sure before it would be easier to seed smaller clan servers, unfortunately now the population is far less than it was, making the players who are around choose/prefer certain servers to others. This makes it harder for "unestablished" clans to seed their servers imo.
I strongly agree with doing some sort of joint partnership of couple/few clans, and as collective seed, its more logical
Keep in mind, now days its very difficult to have an active server, but its also very rewarding.

That is extreme if you weren't spamming it. It is rude to suggest moving servers, just as it is rude to ban someone and not warn him before. I wouldn't be surprised if his story is 100% true. Project Reality is no exception to rude people.

Never said anything of the kind before, as usually there's a server with a decent amount of people going that I can just jump into.
Sure, my suggestion may be rude, if suggesting that a server admin relinquish his control over the game so we can all get a good game is so terribly rude.

With that logic, insider trading should be legal. It is, as you say, just information.MikeJT wrote:Providing people with information is not sabotaging anyones efforts. Its just providing people with information.

Re: Whatever you do when playing PR, NEVER do this...
PRTA has spent alot of time and effort getting people to seed our servers.
The people spend countless hours on the server. When you jump in there, the initial seeders might be offended that theyr work is just removed cause u dragged all the players out of there.
its like hosting a party, and the party next door which is the same size, suggest you shut ur party down and move over there.
Dunno how they do it in australia, but that is considerd rude in norway
The fact is, most clans do cooperate on seeding. They do split themselfs up between the servers, AFAIK, NEW and PRTA aswell as NwA has those agreements with the EU clans. I do not know what the american servers are doing.
But its based on popularity. And if your server is up it means u are popular, and if you are popular. For the size of this community, that means power. And people love power. So its really a minefield, although you mean well, its like telling a woman she might want to lose some weight if she wants to look popular.
Well you get my point. Get a large crowd of friends together. And take them to the servers u feel should be populated, based on your oppinion of the admins/serverquality/gameplay and stability aswell as map.
That gives the Admins an incentive to listen to you and your group, and it gives you influence. Cause at the end of the day, its all about politics. And that can be fun IMO.

Very hard not to do it tho when there are only 2 servers up and 1 is playing Boringal Valley and the other Fallujah.

Like i said, gather a group of friends u like playing with in teamspeak. Then u can select servers like that. Its not that hard if u have friends
Then u just play PR, and hopefully because of your seeding efforts you get the server up faster, and in conjunction to that, you can agree with the server admins. "hey we will join if u will run this map tonight please". And u can have some influence on the gameplay aswell.
