Mestia camping spot in the Ammo Bunker thing.

Post by Mikemonster »

Had a hilarious time tonight trying to flush the .41 clan out of the Ammo Bunker flag.

They took the RWS humvee and rushed it on game start, managed to camp there all game.

Pretty funny, there were only 20 players per side and only 3 flags to cap. None of us could figure out a way to get them out.

Because of the layout of the bunker you can park the Humvee right at the end, and if you're well practised nobody gets a chance to shoot you with a LAT.

Whilst it was amusing, it's also really an exploit, as you can't get them out (they mine the entrance so any BRDM can't get in). Smoke grenades are ineffective because of the thermals.

Good way to get a l33t K:D though! :P

just stand on the flag and let them rot in the basement, if all 20 of your guys are on the flag, and not all of them are on it, you take it.

Drop 2-3 arty ieds through the roof? The splash should kill the humvee.

We tried C4, the blast doesn't reach unfortunately.

There were only 3 flags and this was one of them.. They tied our team down all game because someone always had to watch the bunker.

We actually captured the southern flag (on that hill below) but then the US team stopped attacking (presumably had no FOBs nearby) and attacked the bunker flag instead (presumably was a shorter distance vs attacking the flag in play). Which meant our team left a skeleton crew on the cappable flag and went back to defend the Ammo Bunker bit.

It's just an invulnerable spot to camp, that's all. It's only because of the thermals on the humvees RWS that you can exploit it.

That is... one of the reasons the map was removed the first time.

Pretty smart gameplay by .41 =)

I'm guessing that humvee 50 didn't have a line of sight on mines. If it did BDRM should have the same on humvee if close enough to mines.

This is where I'm thinking that an engineer should have removed the mines with BDRM close as backup. Then roll in.

Would it have worked?

The BRDM only spawned once, and it was destroyed by a LAT en route to the bunker.

FWIW I did build a FOB nearby and with the Logi truck's crates depeted I suicided over the mine. Like I said the BRDM didn't respawn though, making that irrelevant.

Also don't forget that the U.S. have the guided HAT (undoubtedly requested at game start by said clan) good luck BRDM..

It takes a lot of guys to attack that spot, and not many at all to defend.

Was pretty funny trying though. I didn't realise that the US had the thermals so I kept trying to smoke.

I'm not convinced it's clever. Selfish, an exploit, yes.

Hello Mikemonster.
Well, first of all, we didn't rushed it. The flag was capable when we came.
What do you mean by camping? You know, some people call it "defending".
We were exploiting something? Oh yeah, I guess we were exploting our thermals lol.

P.S. And thx to you, when your BRDM came, they couldn't see anything through your own smoke. ROFL

Put Mestia back to its original 2 flag layout (along with ghost train) and you wouldn't have these issues.

There is no such thing as "camping" in PR... so if someone is patient, he is a"camper"?

Of course you can camp.. This is a prime example.

They weren't defending or taking a flag, they were just staying in one place to pad their scores/get a nice K:D. His attitude says it all..

Besides which, PR is a game that people play to have fun. If you do this sort of thing you're being selfish. It's one thing to asshat in vBF2 (C4 cars etc), but why would you asshat in PR?

It is not about score or KD. PR was always about tickets, tactics and teamwork. And also, PR is about a life of a soldier. R-DEVs are constantly thinking about how to make people worth their lives. And what are you trying to say? We must do what? Run everywhere and die just to make you happy? Personaly, I don't want to die and if it means "camping", I prefer to camp. You could just leave us alone and go away, but you was constantly trying to kill us, that is why you had a 0:13 KD. Think about it. I don't want to discuss further, because your complaint is silly.

I see the removal of the bunker not going to happen, since then we would have to remove the kashan desert 16 layout - bunkers aswell, because a hummvie at the maindoor + infantry covering the roofentrances would be kind of a similar situation ;)

Anyways, there are some little mestia related gameplay improvements coming in with the next release.
Stay tuned.

A similar situation we can create on any map.

I am totally with my Boss here - Apart from FOB or Main spawn rape there is no such thing as camping in PR!
It is also called the patience game. And it is a good one!

I wasn't there when that happened, so i don't know about the specifics of that situation but as others have said, enough arty ieds should take care of sth. like that. Need to test that though!

well obviously a situation where the enemy is unkillable is kind of bad, I dont know how that could escape anyone..

Show me a spot in PR where an enemy is
a) unkillable

BUT ALSO

b) a threat to anyone

Sure, there are selected spots (combined with the optimal weapon system) that are better than others...this is what this game is (partially) about. Doing the correct thing a little bit faster/better/more quietly/etc. than your opponent.

-----------------------------------------

Btw...to put an end to this "unkillable" thing, at least in this particular case.
Note: As I said before, I am not 100% sure where the car exactly was but I parked as far away from the hole in the roof as I could and as you can see...no problem.

- grab an Mil-Engineer (arty)
- approach the hole from "their" side (from east in this case) so you can't be spotted (so easily) while planting the thing
- let the arty drop down in the whole.
- In case they parked the LAV down there, repeat the above
- ???
- Profit!

I rest my case.

Camping exists in PR, it's just not something bad as certain people say it is in different games (Counter Strike, Call of Duty). Camping is when you're sitting at the same spot for a long period of time, and it really works if you're defending something in PR.

IMO camping in CoD is becoming incredibly difficult to do for any length of time. The map designs are so good there are practically no situations where you can cover all potential attack routes. Camping exists when you can do just that, and PR's tunnels and a few of its buildings make it easy.
