So guys , I'm going to upgrade my pc soon , I will change it's cpu from my old amd phenom 2 955 to a brand new i5-3570k/i7-3770k (I will OC since I recently bought a Noctua nh-d14 cooler).
The question is , which one should I buy since my primary target is gaming , is the i7 worth the extra money or not ?

Re: Yet another PC build
I bought the i5-3570k in early October, and am kind of regretting not paying the extra money for the i7 370k because I expect I'll be using this new PC for at least 5 years.
So, from my experience, I'd say if the ~60 Euro price difference is a consideration, start with cheaper other components. Get the good mobo and cpu now, build it up later.
The thing is, games today and in the next few years are barely going to take advantage of 4 cores, so 8 cores is probably overkill. However, 8 cores should be able to keep the PC useful all the way through 2017. I think the 95-2570k is going to be obsolete about a year earlier.
So spend 60 Euros more today to save money in 5 years, or save 60 Euros today and buy some new gaming PC the size of a shoebox in 2016 instead of 2017.
I might sell my i5-3570k and upgrade to the 3770k in the next few months if I can justify the time and cost to do it.

Re: Yet another PC build
Also , with my current PC
AMD Phenom 2 x4 955 OC 3,8ghz
8gb ram -1600
AMD 6970
1tb wd
I am getting low fps in PR :BF2 , in the middle of the maps or looking towards the middle of the maps if I am on the edge sometimes, I get like under 30 fps , on some maps I'v even gotten 23 fps for a couple of seconds, what could this be ? I used AMD System Monitor and my video card was used 20 percent at tops
So I'm buying the i5 hoping this will stop happening , it's really frustrating turning around and when you are looking towards the middle of the map the game gets under 30-40 fps , even more annoying when you have to shoot somebody because it's gets all stuttery .
Also I'm getting the i5 since il probably upgrade my pc within 3-4 years .
So the question is would a new CPU improve the fps in BF2 : PR ?

Re: Yet another PC build
Oblivio,
I play PR on my ASUS X54h laptop. (i3 2350M at 2.3ghz, 4gb ram, HD 7470M 1gb vram). That is not a machine for gaming but with everything on high settings (dynamic shadows and light on Medium) and AAx4 I get 40 - 80 fps depending on where I am looking. It is always playable. EXCEPT, on certain maps I experience the same problem you do: I get less than 30 fps when looking in certain directions, usually into the middle.
My resolution is 1366x768 a 60hz on a 15 inch monitor.
I am not sure that any amount of horsepower is going to keep you from seeing really low fps on certain maps looking in certain directions, or experiencing lag spikes, or jaggies, or any other manner of poor video quality. These are problems with the maps, limitations of the engine, etc.
