Tip: Add your BF2 retail CD key to Origin!

Post by TeRR0R »

If you are using Origin anyway and once bought a BF2 Complete retail DVD, you can just add the CD key to Origin!

Your next BF2 installation using Origin will be a breeze. No more discs, no more patches, no more hassle with punkbuster!

This type of setup if fully compatible with PR!

However, the addition of retail keys to Origin is restricted to games from 2009 onwards and older keys will not work.
I could't add my key, because I bought BF2/SF in 2006.
But with help of the EA support chat I got BF2 Complete added to steam!
He checked my old retail keys and added a brand-new key to Origin manually.
If you have trouble finding the support chat, just look for Battlefield 3 support.

Or you can add it to steam, or, you can just keep on using your DVD :p

Hmm...if it does work on Steam or Origin that would put 2 of my old copies of BF2 to use (since no disk drive I've used is able to read the discs anymore).

Why would you want to do that? I take steam/Origin as necessary evil and try to avoid them when possible...

Thats why I wrote "If you use Origin anyway..."

And you use it only for the BF2 installation process. Origin doesn't need to run in the background when you play the game.

Hmm... Good to know! I have Battlefield 3 on Origin, but honestly, I've never even played it yet. Computer can't run it [intel HD graphics shader model 2 sadface], 13 yr olds permeate the scene, looks too candy, and besides. We have PR  Why would you even bother with another when you've already got it the best it comes

Plus to find out there wouldn't be any modding support for 3, was a big turn off. Like a cold shower. Like waking up to a smegma smelling fatty. So I could care less about BF3.

As for my copy of Battlefield 2, I preordered it from Gamestop and installed it the day it came in. But honestly, I haven't used the DVD to install it but one time. After I installed it, I used Virtual Drive Pro 10 (or 11 maybe) to rip the dvds into .vcd format, and I've been carrying those around with me for the last 8 years. I've installed across maybe six or seven different machines with those .vdk's. Why bother with scratchable dvd's when you can just rip a virtualdisk with the disk security too?

Now I use Virtual Drive Pro 14 (compatible with W7). I've been using the same CD key for the last 8 years!

found this thread when I tried to do the same thing... it don't work through origin right now but let me tell you guys what is working...

I called origin support and they walked me through setting up a pogo account, then adding the pogo profile to my ea account, then they used that profile to add my game code.. then and only then did the game show up in my games in origin.

After a long chat with EA i figured how to add my CD-key that is older than 2009.

You need what is called EA-Classic username:

Just follow these easy steps:

1. Create an account on Pogo.com (this is a website EA uses for small games i assume)
2. Login to with your origin account https://profile.ea.com/myprofile.do
3. Go to "Add persona" and use you new Pogo fill in your new Pogo details.
4. Choose your new Persona as standard.

That should be it!

Hope it works for you guys too!

I'm just guessing, may be try to add it to Origin as the steps shown fixes the adding CD key to origin with a pre-2008 Key.. So once fixed try adding it.

I some times wonder has the human race reached its full potential.
