Observing the community

Post by Heavy Death »

Don't know how to start this, so i'll just shoot.

Recently, I have noticed changes in the community. Activity of people that might not be veterans, that might not be well known, newbies, and cease of elitism for the most part.

I think we're on the right track of actually being useful to one another, not being split, arguing or boasting. Keep up the good work, and I'm saying this not to the community, but to each individual, because thats how you change things. I very much believe that untill the release of 1.0, we will get a lot stronger, a lot more welcoming, a lot more helping instead of before, where everybody treated others like shit, except their friends/clan.

Regarding clans. It is the leader of the cland that organizes the members. It is the leader who sets the pace and most importantly, it is the leader who members look up to. So running a clan is a responsibility that has an impact if the clan is in substantial numbers. Impact that everybody can feel when playing. Mind you, public games aren't clan wars, yet some of the clans take it like that... that leaves an impression on the public. In a riot with 10000 people, 50 organized peple can provoke violence, in return, police intervention. A clan squad is 1/5 of the team... that percentage is even higher, impact is massive. Take a look at your actions, take a look at yourself, both members and leaders. Is what you're doing beneficial to the others, not just yourself? You cannot vote clan leaders most of the time, so you're either in or youre out. Clan members should already have the same mentality as the leader when they sign up, or they gain that over time, wich is inevitable as if it was different, they wouldn't be in the very clan.
Running and being in a good clan should mean that you're someone to look up to, not being someone who gets negative responses from the public.

Similar thing are communities, but there the image of the leader isn't so important as communities often consists of many admins and they are playing on "home turf". They are the public relations department. They represent the community and so their actions are what public makes of the quality of the community. Leaders priority should be admin quality and member behaviour. Game violators should be dealt with swiftly and properly. Seems rough but thats the way to go. Quality should be extremely high as only in that manner you can provide the best experience and in return more followers. Rooting out the weed is the goal.

In regards to developers. Same goes for you. Public relation is quintessential to keep people happy. That side has been vastly improved lately aswell, so I cannot complain about stagnation at all.

To sum this up;
If I see a locked clan squad, grabbing assets, I will deem them arrogant. If I see an open clan squad, join and meet friendly people, there is a high chance I will also be interested in that clan and spread good word.

If I don't see admins on the server, I will expect problems. As there is no control, something is bound to happen and I will disconnect from the server. If there is an admin on the rcon, I will feel better but will always have the tough that he cannot see whats really happening. If there is an adming in game and even in my squad, I will probably have all problems covered. Guardian angel so to speak. It will make me feel really good and the quick response will result in the community getting a good rating from me. If admins are arrogant, useless or straight unskilled, I will immediately blacklist the server and never join again. Might not even join at all if I get the information for a decent number of players who were there before me.

If I see developers playing, or play with a developer directly, it feels like I'm playing with a god. I see they are human, part of the community. After the release of 1.0, I would really like to see the developing process halting for a month or two and you guys playing instead of working your *** off. (Bug fixing inevitable, sadly)

That is probably all I had to say, in short. I could go on but feel no need to do so as i have covered the core. I have also kept any names out as I dont want people thinking im pointing fingers, which I am clearly not. Also want to thank the developers, staff and the community for making PR what it is today and providing me with fun like no other for the past 5 years. There has been ups and downs but we are practially a family of few thousand people, making all this work as it should. Lets act like one aswell; Help those who are in need, provide to those who want and get rid of those who are no good.
Happy holidays to you all!

There's fewer experienced players and more noobs at the moment so elitism is on the decline, yes.

I've always found the clans' servers I play in do an excellent job, just as mentioned. Keep up the good work guys.
