10 minutes in Hardlocks my computer

Post by DelightfulOreo »

Note: this is not exclusive to PR, it also occurs in vanilla BF2.

When I load into a game I can play for about 10 minutes before the game completely freezes my computer and emits a buzzing noise, the only way to get back to windows is via the power button.

I'm not really sure what causes this or how to fix it.

Can I assume it happen on other games too?

The buzzing might be alarm on your mb - are there any lights that come on the mb when this occurs?

What temperature is it running?

This only happens with BF2, It's the first time my computer has frozen/crashed in months, my MB (I'm assuming this stands for mother board) is running at 46-50 Celcius

While monitoring the temperature my motherboard remains a steady 45 while loading into the game but my CPU ramps up to 60 Celcius (holyshit!) and that's before I even get into battle, can you give me any tips for cooling my computer?

60 isn't that high (but it might be getting higher than that after the game loads for a bit...)...

the Thermal Paste on your CPU has possibly failed... or the CPU cooler fan isn't working.

If the fan is working you'll need to take it off, clean the bottom of the fan and the cpu and reapply some thermal paste.

Sounds like the age-old (since 2009) Realtek+Win7+BF2 BSOD. {Pun intended}

Disabling your sound-device in the BIOS/windows device manager should allow you to test it. [Play without sound for some period of time such that you're satisfied that you're no longer BSOD/freezing]
