You must use pr.exe to run project reality... HELP!

Post by Cogley »

Okay, I've done research for like 3 days on this and no solution has helped. I run BF2 through steam and nothing has helped... I've uninstalled, restarted, got the patch, everything. Project reality starts up and it gets to the login screen, when i press login after like 10 seconds the message comes up saying You must use pr.exe to run project reality. Someone please give me a solution to this problem

Please give us your system specs, specifically what OS, XP, Vista, 7, 8 etc.
Is your OS the 32 or 64 bit version?
Did you install PR with a Windows User Account with Administrator privileges?

You must first start vanilla BF2 and create a user account and join an online server. Doing this will let BF2 create Registry files required for PR and online gaming. You can not create your user profile from within PR.exe .

In general, this occurs if you do not have Steam running before you start the pr.exe desktop shortcut. The UAC can also make this worse.
When you start the PR.exe shortcut, the shortcut will first launch Steam, which takes a few seconds, then the Steam app launches BF2.exe. bBUT the pr.exe executable expects the BF2.exe executable to start instantaneously when you click the PR.exe shortcut.

The easiest solution is to run Steam , keep it maximized, then go to Windows Explorer and find this:

A:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr,exe

The other option is to create a Non-Steam shortcut to PR,

Start Steam
CLick Games Tav
Select Add Non-Steam Game to My Library

Add this, (adjust to your Steam installtion folder of course)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe

Name it PR , or Project Reality

Steam->Library
Right Click on the New PR shortcut and "Add shortcut to Desktop"

Use that shortcut to run PR.
