What is "Hardcoded" ?

Post by zombie-yellow »

Is it something that you'll have to edit the engine itself to be able to make it ? Is editing the engine breaking the IP and/or copyright or whatever ?

Just askin' :)

I believe anything that Battlefield engine cannot do (eg fastropes). The engine cannot be changed without breaking the EULA.

Ok, that's what I was thinking... They would have to buy a licence to be allowed to modify the engine ?

My understanding is yes, unless the dev team got permission from EA to edit the files - which isn't going to happen. Also, I'm pretty sure that a license to edit the engine is not for sale and that if it were it would be very expensive.

We obviously do not have access to the source code of the engine. Thus to implement some features it requires huge work-arounds. Thus the term "hard-coded" comes up a lot, where there is stuff we simply cannot change without a unfeasible amount of work-arounds to implement.

When people say stuff is hardcoded, take it with a pinch a of salt. Nothing is impossible with this engine, its just a lot of the stuff we would love to do is unfeasible for a number of reasons. If we had access to the engine source code we could do a lot more, but we obviously dont so welcome to modding battlefield games :p

It's sad that in a game that is so old, DICE don't allow fellow modders like you or Forgotten Hope to have a licence of the engine :(

I can't imagine how much you could do by editing the engine lol everything is possible if you code it in the engine :)

I'm guessing EA is afraid people wouldn't buy BF4 when that thing comes around if they did. I guess I won't either way, but still :p

After the Uninspiring BF3 release I aint gonna buy BF4. I bought it played the solo part, whent into multiplayer and left after less than 1 week of playing it. Even Bad company 2 is better than Bf3. Worst money spent that year.

Be one awesome gift If EA did give the devs a license for the engine.

But those greedy ******** at EA will never do that. But maybe if DICE is still the owner of the engine.

This game just hooked me and a lot of others from the start. I like that EA has noticed what the DEV's have done with it. This is the direction a lot of gamers want to go in terms of teamplay and realism. I truly hope that it influences many games to come in the future.

EA would do extremely well if they put the PR devs on the payroll for BF4...

No scratch that, if they could - I'd like to think the Devs would put the community before selling out (but I wouldn't be pissed if you did sell out :P )
