Random ingame freezes

Post by general_Lee_USA »

My system: XP 32bit, core 2 duo 3.0ghz, nvidia 9800gtx+ 512mb, 4GB ddr2 ram, Creative X-fi sound card. 600W power supply

I have recently been having problems with PR/BF2 freezing up randomly. It happens anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour into a match. The image locks up completely, and I have to either manually end it through task manager from my 2nd monitor or reboot entirely. Sometimes I will also get random artifacts/colorations across the screen, which I have attached a screenshot of.

I have tried several different videocard driver versions. Reinstalled game. Graphics settings to medium. Cleared BF2 cache. CPU/memory stress test was fine, GPU stress test was fine. PB reinstalled/updated. With and without X-Fi soundcard drivers installed/enabled. All firewalls disabled. No antivirus.

Could I have downloaded corrupt BF2 1.5 or PR Files? Anybody have any suggestions?

That looks awesome.

Go to my Documents\Battlefield2\mods\bf2\cache and delete the sub directories with very long names.

That will fix the colorations issues.
Every time you update/change the GPU drivers you need to do that.

My first guess is you are running out of memory, either RAM, virtual memory, or Video RAM VRAM.

I'd suggest you follow the directions here:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... b-ram.html . Further Info: /3GB (Windows Drivers) I 'd suggest using something like 2.25GB

I'd suggest using only one monitor, you only have 512mb of VRAM, don't waste it.

I'd suggest you set the pagefile to a manually set static size. Windows XP FAQ Answers: How can I adjust the "Page File" or "Virtual Memory" settings?
THen reboot, then defragment your pagefile as shown in this tutorial:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/ ... indows-xp/

I'd suggest using IOBit BameBooster, to shutdown as many background processes as possible to free up RAM . Razer Game Booster Free Download, Speed Up PC for Top Gaming Performance

And finally, defragment the partition that has PR installed, The PR installation files fragment the compressed .zip files that contain the texture files, which is quite bad hit on performance.

In summation:
Decrease reserved RAM for OS, because it is wasted when gaming.
Decrease RAM used by background programs
Thereby increasing RAM available to BF2.exe PR.exe and TR.exe
Set a static size for your pagefile, defragmenting the pagefile.
Defragment the partition with BF2 and PR, to defrag the .zip files.

Good luck.
