From this thread I see that you necessarily need to have 3DSMax9 in order to mod for BF2/PR. I have the AutoCAD student license but the earliest version that they have is 3DS Max 2010. Can I go along with that or do I necessarily need the 9?
And if so, where can I get the 9?

I would also personally like to know, because I am in the same boat modeling the flak in 2012/2013. From what I've heard things can transfer but it you may have to export things differently to max 9...mainly because the UV's and smoothing groups mess up for some reason.

Re: 3DS Max9?
The BF2 export tools only work with 3DS Max 9 (and some older versions). As Ratface said, when opening (importing) scenes from newer Max versions into Max 9, chances are you lose smoothing groups or even get errors like duplicate/hidden verts/faces. Not that hard to fix up, just tedious.
So if you're looking to model for BF2/PR, it's highly recommended to get Max 9 (if not you'll have to deal with the import errors).

Re: 3DS Max9?
The simple fact of the matter is how ever easy it might be to back port a scene, at the end of the day, very, very, very few models modelled in a later version of 3DsMax9 ever make it ingame and the ones that do take a much longer time to get ingame.
TBH I can't even think of one vehicle made in anything beyond Max9 that has actually yet to make it 100% ingame. Can think of one that is close to making it ingame but still, needs a lot of work before its in which is mainly down to the back porting.

I didn't want to create a whole new thread for it and it seemed OP's last question was never answered so I was kinda wondering the same thing. Been thinking about creating some Korean War models, or a ship... can't decide. I have an autodesk account and 3ds max2014 but can't find 9 anywhere.ubermensche wrote:And if so, where can I get the 9?
