1.0 Server Spec Reccomendation

Post by Vicious302 »

If money was no object what would be the reccomended server specs. I see that Sisu says they are using a i7 2600k which really isn't even a server proccesor. I currently have Verizon quantum speeds available in my area at 300 mb/s which is more than Sisu's 250 mb/s connection and I am more central to the US area. Considering building and hosting a server but I want to build the ultimate server that can handle whatever is thrown at it.

servers crashing on PR is not uncommon.

even if you build the best of the best server your server will crash. its something with BF2 PR. it happends to all servers in this game.

Would you be hosting your server from a data center? Or building it and hosting on your domestic connection?

I had not considered the option of a data center but I am looking into that right now. My domestic connection is 300mb/s download over 150/upload.

Currently getting a quote from Peer1 Data Center. They say they offer protection against ddos attacks. :D

Server specs I'm looking at.

Processor: Xeon E3-1280 3.6Ghz (4.0Ghz Turbo)
Memory: Kingston 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3 1600 ECC Registered Server Memory
Mobo: ASUS P8B-E/4L ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1155 Intel C204 DDR3 ECC UDIMM
SSD: OCZ Vector Series VTR1-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC

Server OS: ???
PS: Whatever it needs
Case: -

Thats only layer 7 attacks (GET and POST) and those attacks are only vuln if you server is running Apache or IIS. The normal layer 4 udp attack will still work..

So I gather that these layer 4 udp attacks are a great concern than the actual server hardware. Is there anywhere that gurantees protection? consider money no object.
