CD Key is invalid windows 7 / amazon digital deluxe copy

I played PR about 4 or 5 years ago on a different name, tried to jump back in on a new machine. Bought a download copy off amazon and was emailed a cd key that i used. Windows 7 64 bit machine all updates and patches, I can join bf2 lobbies no problem but PR I get a short pause and then a server connection error message and then your cd is not valid. I have the cd key amazon emailed me aswell as 2 old manuals with cd keys from when I used to play. Any help would be much appreciated, so close yet so far...
edit: i tried the reg edit for bf2 and special forces as well as multiple other programs none worked. I recall having the same problem 4 years ago but the fix isn't as easy now?
edit 2: I can join the VBIOS Ukranian server, but no north american servers with decent ping? Thanks in advance
edit 3: I did the regedit and used one of my old cd keys at it works now, great! see you on the killing fields good folks
