How to recognize the enemy from the friendly

Post by Sonix91 »

Hey,

is there a comparison between all uniforms? It's quite hard for me to see who is friendly. For now I just wait untill my squadmates engage someone. Still its hard because I can't give my squad accurate information if the movement I've seen is friendly or not.

So can someone help me out? How did you learn the diffrence?

It's hard to tell from a distance sometimes. I ALWAYS check my map for friendlies in the area that I think I see enemy. If in doubt, check your map. (if u have time)

It's just one of those things you learn by playing the game a little too much like some of us do. The map helps, but soon you'll start to recognize the uniforms pretty well. After some time you will probably be able to discern friendly from enemy at several hundred metres. I don't think there's any uniform/camouflage guide. My advice would be to play the game and learn by trial and error like everyone else.

Also be friends with your capslock key, as it's a valid source for being totally sure if the guy you spotted is enemy or friendly. Can't stress this enough - people should look at the map more often.

As others have stated: You'll get the hang of it in a while. It can definitely be a bit confusing at first, but if you remember to check your map while it still is, you'll be fine.

The thing is to be aware of where friendlies are on the map, so you know which direction is not friendly.

best way to tell is by watching his weapon... sometimes helps. There also small details which will tell you if its a friendly with enemy kit.

1. Map, 2. Name over head, 3. Bottom half of uniform.

Never use weapon or helmet to try and tell which side someone belongs on, it might be your guy who had to dump his empty weapon. Just don't shoot if you can't be certain... I'm very, VERY tired of being TK'd that it's brought me to tears once, and caused me to stop playing as often as I used to.

You can find out the hard way by shooting at them.

Just kidding. Don't do that. But I am sure most of us, if not all, have encountered one of those (Should I shoot at him before he shoots me?) moments when you were unsure about a possible target that was aiming at you as well. Not a good feeling to be wrong in this sort of situation, right Bounty?

I guess patience is the key. If the friendly is also unsure about you (indicated by drawing weapon towards you or firing at you) then I just quickly take cover, and try to move closer and yell at the person through local mumble. All of the above are solutions as well.

But I kind of like the fact that it is hard to discern friend from foe sometimes. Just one of those aspects about PR gameplay that keeps you paying more attention.

It comes with experience. Just use your bincoulars allot. Also, switching to your map to check friendly positions is neat-o.

Be particularly careful with some unconventional factions, like the militia, where multipul types of uniform are used.

This won't really work after v1.0 comes out though. Only certain kits will have binoculars like Spotter and Officer kits.

Yeah, basically it's gonna be the following for regular grunts:

- Check your map
- Ask your SL to ID
- Take a chance

Which I think is fantastic! I love playing vietnam, not having everyone whipping out binos every 2 seconds. I can't wait!!! :)

Just do a "warning shot" when they return fire you can assume they are enemy, if they call out "cease fire" hold the trigger. And of course looking at the map and people's torso or legs, the color of the legs/torso won't change even if they have an enemy kit.

TK rates will go up in 1.0 but overall it will be a better expirence i bet. Squad-leaders will have a tough time making themselves easy targets standing with binos.... but it will add to the importance of a good teamwork. I think it will be good.

And yes the map is your best friend at range. Also a good tip is that if you aim at someone and figure out he is friendly... quickly aim another way or he may think your an enemy :p . Iv'e had some funny encounters with friendlys where he shoots at me before i confirm him as friendly..then i return fire and we shoot for a bit untill we realise we are both friendlys :D

Once you play enough and get used to it you can look at players' geometry, it's the best way to make the difference : depending on the faction players don't run and move the same way, they don't have the same shape etc.
