Nvidia GTX 700 series

Post by DesmoLocke »

Got both of my EVGA GTX 780 Superclocked cards in today from NewEgg. I was kinda dissappointed that it took 6 days for shipping, but living in Hawaii and with the release during Memorial Day weekend, I understood.

Anyways, I've got them installed and running in SLI with the 320.18 drivers. I'll post benchmarks for any of you who are thinking of upgrading to the 700 series of cards. :D

Haha I've seen that thread, but I'm not entirely sure it's the 320.18 WHQL drivers that are the problem.

I played all weekend with those drivers using my dual 8800GT cards without an issue.

But back to the GTX 780s. I had to order a new power supply so benchmarks will have to wait. I was getting complete system shutdown during rounds of Rising Storm on Ultra settings. I had the same problem with an older 570 I had for a while. Anyways, It's time to upgrade my old Ultra X3 1,000 watt anyways. I went with a Corsair AX1200i from Amazon. Saved $50 compared to NewEgg.

I'll post back here when I have everything installed and ready to go.

An Dell 24" 2407WFP 1920x1200 for now.

I'm active duty military and set to return to the barracks. If that wasn't the case, I'd try to go for three 30" 2560x1600 displays for sure!

Or maybe a replacement 120hz monitor something...

Same here lol, you can do EVGA's step up (90 days of purchase only) that has you pay the difference between what you paid for your card and the price of the card you want. In my case it would cost me $91 to step up to a 780. Personally don't see it worth it as I'll just be a slight FPS boost. I suggest to just wait till the 680 prices go down and do SLI, then go for the 8x series once they're out.

Hmm...can't wait for the AMD 8000 series to come out. Going to get a couple of the 8970s. Along with the Steamroller CPU when it's released.

I finally completed the last part of my rig. Bought my 780 ACX about 20 minutes ago. Selling my old 570 OC for $200 so I'm effectively getting it for $450. Pretty stoked.

Here's my rig if you're interested:

Nice. The ACX cooler looks great and seems to perform well.

I've decided to watercool my old Nehalem i7 920 because I really think it's holding my cards back. I need to get around to running some benchmarks anyway.

It's a shame that the 4770k has about 5% performance boost over my 3770k or I would consider upgrading to the new socket. Not worth my money until the 5th generation in my opinion.

I love my cards. I got them the first hour they were available on NewEgg.com

In other news, I really like the value offered by the 760. Offers GTX 670 performance for around $250. Very nice.
