Fans dying

Post by mangeface »

So I have 4 Cooler Master SickleFlow case fans running air through my rad for my Corsair H100. One of them died at one point (it seized up), so instead of going through RMA and all that shit I just purchased a new one. I put the new one in about 3 weeks ago and now it's making this eerily screeching sound as it spins. This sound new to anyone or just a random coincidence that one died and I got a new one that was bound to go bad quickly?

The latter just doesn't sound like Cooler Master, I've got a few of their products in my rig (primarily the case and case fans).

the screenching happens because the cooler decenters it self a bit and starts hitting the frame, and it can also happen because of a dust ball inside where the electric motor is, cleaning it, but blowing into it and then bumping it with your finger will usually fix the problem.

And make sure its on the correct way because if you put the front part toward the case itll hit the cases protective mesh, and thatll cause it to screech
There is only one unforgivable lie That is the lie that says, This is the end, you are the conqueror, you have achieved it and now all that remains is to build walls higher and shelter behind them. Now, the lie says, the world is safe.? The Great Khan.

40k is deep like that.

Well, they're correctly installed. It was plugged into the CPU cooler controller, so I've just unplugged it for now. I'll probably end up getting a different brand of fans, something that'll run at a higher RPM and push more air.

Cougar Vortex 120mm 4pin PWM
Gentle Typhoon AP-14 3pin PWM

Those are the best bang for the buck (if you consider low noise decibels very important.)

Go read from the guru of case fan testing, and find all the info you need:

Noise isn't a huge deal for me, my pc is loud as it is when the 7970 fan kicks in. I just want something with a high CFM.

I'll check them out though. And thanks for the link, I'll be paying that site a visit when I start constructing a new pc.
