Dont know if this is the correct location for this question but here goes:
Why is it not allowed to host PR server from a home line? I have a 100mbit fiber connection and plenty of server resources to host a server. But when reading the terms it states this is not allowed?
My connection would be better then most shared hosting enviroments....
I would like to host a kick *** coop server 24/7 I once had a license and after not playing PR for 1.5 years it was time to get started again. And now this is in place?
Could someone please inform me why this is now in place?

Re: question
It's not to do with PR but with BF2.
Not so sure why exactly you can't host a server from a homeline but I'm sure someone else will answer it.

Re: Question: Host PR server at home
You can host a BF2/PR server from anywhere you like. Doesn't matter if you host it at home or rent a special game-server somewhere. Most home connections don't offer enough upstream though, but if yours does, go and request a license

Re: Question: Host PR server at home
ok cool I will apply as soon as I get the vm setup. but maybe to avoid confusion you should take out the bold line below from the application page?
User Licenses are for individual users, clans, and other small organizations who wish to host public and/or private (passworded) Project Reality Servers. By default, a single User License is allowed to add up to 3 game servers and 5 license moderators. These servers must be internet facing (i.e. respond to server queries), and hosted at a data-centre. We do not issue licenses for home hosted or LAN-only servers.
As you can see the data-centre requirement is set in this line.

Ah, didn't recall that part, sorry. Hm, then I guess it's best if Epoch comments on this. He deals with these licenses.'[FED wrote:Mad;1898584']ok cool I will apply as soon as I get the vm setup. but maybe to avoid confusion you should take out the bold line below from the application page?

Re: Question: Host PR server at home
You can PM Epoch here, and discuss this with him privately if he has the time. As it is, the rules state that the server can't be locally hosted, so there's currently indeed no point in an application.
One of the problems could be unexpected downtimes due to other use of the PC.
Another major reason is Punkbuster and other services, which won't work on a home computer, so I see little chance for this to change.
I'll be locking this, but please PM me in case Epoch answers, so I can put up the response here. If he does not answer at all, PM me, or any MOD, and we'll try to get in touch for you. Although he'll probably only be able to explain this in more detail.

Re: Question: Host PR server at home
The rules are clear. No discussion necessary.
A home based server can be hosted via the PR/BF2 client

[R-MOD]Cp: epoch if I wasn't dancing right now I'd shoot you.
